RoleWe’re currently looking for a talented Java Backend Engineer to strengthen the team, responsible for building and operating the APIs, services and integrations that power insurance products for our partners and their customers.
What will you be doing:
- Design, build and maintain backend services and RESTful APIs in Java
- Collaborate closely with the Product Owner, frontend and QA teams
- Manage, maintain, and extend company backend repos and services
- Integrate with third-party insurers, payment providers and partner systems
- Always be security aware and privacy focused
- Be a member of a Scrum team, always lend a hand to achieve team and product goals
- Enhance our backend stack with new tools and technologies
- Contribute ideas and suggestions on automation, technology, and processes to improve cross-team collaboration
Requirements
Must have skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
- Minimum 2 years professional experience in developing backend applications in Java
- Solid knowledge of Java (17+), the JVM ecosystem and object-oriented design
- Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs
- Experience with Couchbase or another NoSQL document database
- Knowledge / awareness of the security aspect of backend applications and APIs
- Experience in unit and integration testing (e.g. JUnit)
- Solid experience using GIT
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
Nice to have:
- Experience with the Quarkus framework (or Spring Boot with willingness to move to Quarkus)
- Familiarity with containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience with messaging / event-driven architectures (e.g. Kafka)
- Exposure to cloud platforms and CI/CD pipelines
- Experience with relational databases and SQL (e.g. PostgreSQL)
- Experience using AI coding tools and assistants in day-to-day development
- Having worked as a member of a Scrum team
- Being familiar with Linux
- Geek about problem solving
