Each year, 2.5 trillion hours are spent on household chores. At Matic, we’re on a mission to recapture that lost time, and we’re doing it by revolutionizing home robotics.
Our first product, also called Matic, is a Wall-E-esque floor cleaning robot. We've built what amounts to "full self-driving in the home” with real-time 3D mapping, adaptive path-tracking, and a precise semantic understanding of the home. Our breakthroughs in spatial AI allow Matic to work reliably in real homes, using only RGB cameras and neural networks running on-device.
Privacy FirstWhat happens in the home, stays in the home. Our robots are private by design, with all data processing performed by the robot itself, not in the cloud.
Our ApproachBefore the iPhone, consumers adopted several distinct devices; cell phones, PDAs, and portable music players each served a particular need. We believe in a similar progression for home robotics, starting with single-purpose robots and building iteratively toward more complex capabilities over time.
Our CultureMatic is a tight-knit and collaborative team, singularly focused on building products our customers will cherish. We're ultra-hardworking people committed to solving tough problems that save precious time and energy.
About the roleAs a Quality Engineer at Matic, you’ll be instrumental in ensuring that our autonomous home robots meet the highest standards of performance, reliability, and customer satisfaction. Based in Mountain View, California, you’ll work closely with our production, engineering, and product teams to design and implement quality control processes that uphold Matic’s commitment to delivering elegant and dependable robotic solutions. This full-time role offers the chance to shape the quality framework of a fast-growing startup, directly impacting the experience of families who rely on our products.
Matic’s hardware team is meticulous, collaborative, and driven by a passion for robotics excellence. If you’re detail-oriented, thrive on solving complex challenges, and are excited to ensure our Wall-E-esque robots exceed expectations, we’d love to talk to you.
What you'll do:
Develop and implement quality assurance processes to evaluate the performance, durability, and safety of Matic's robotic products.
Monitor field and fleet performance, identify trends and emerging failure modes, and prioritize issues based on severity, frequency, and customer impact.
Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) on defects and failures across production, validation, and field returns; drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) with cross-functional teams.
Own Non-Conforming Inventory (NCI) — tracking, segregation, disposition, rework, and reconciliation — ensuring accuracy and compliance.
Work closely with Production to improve process consistency, yield, and overall product quality; contribute to PFMEA development to proactively identify and mitigate process risks.
Support reliability testing efforts including fatigue, vibration, and environmental testing; contribute to test plan development and help analyze and communicate results.
Perform failure analysis across the product lifecycle and ensure learnings feed back into design and manufacturing.
Build and manage quality and reliability metrics including fleet-level performance tracking.
Support NPI builds and production ramp by integrating quality and reliability checkpoints into development workflows.
Contribute to design reviews (DFMEA) by bringing field and production learnings into the conversation.
Document quality and reliability procedures, including SOPs, inspection plans, and training materials for production teams.
What we look for:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent experience.
2–5 years in quality, reliability, or product engineering — ideally in consumer electronics, robotics, or manufacturing.
Strong foundation in quality methodologies: Lean, Six Sigma, SPC, and standard inspection techniques.
Hands-on experience with structured problem-solving and root cause analysis — DFMEA, PFMEA, 8D, fishbone, and DoE.
Experience supporting NPI and production ramp, including PPAP/APQP and validation processes.
Familiarity with reliability concepts and hardware validation; experience designing or executing reliability test plans is a plus, not a requirement.
Comfort with data analysis tools (Python, SQL, Minitab, Tableau, JMP, or similar) is a strong plus.
Proficiency with CAD, statistical tools, or quality management systems; robotics hardware/software familiarity is a plus.
Strong communicator who can work across engineering, production, and leadership.
Proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable in a fast-paced startup environment.
Compensation:
Base: $100,000 - $150,000 per annum.
Actual Compensation will depend on skills, experience and qualifications. Base Salary is one part of the total compensation package. The role is also eligible for equity through the company’s discretionary equity program, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental and vision coverage access to a 401(k) plan.
