Summary Generated by Built In
At Colas Construction (COLAS), we believe every employee plays a vital role in our mission: to build legacies and strengthen communities. We value collaboration, adaptability, and a team-first mindset.
We are seeking a qualified IT Support & Systems Specialist who will partner closely with the IT Director and own day-to-day technology support and core system administration across COLAS’s office and field operations, including end-user support, device lifecycle management, office and jobsite connectivity, and account and access administration. This position plays a critical role in ensuring that employees in the office and on active project sites have reliable, secure access to the devices, systems, and applications they need to work efficiently.
In addition to serving as the first point of contact for technology support requests, the IT Support & Systems Specialist performs routine monitoring and maintenance of core systems, coordinates with vendors on escalated issues, and maintains the documentation and standardized workflows that reduce dependency on individual knowledge. By owning frontline support and routine administration, this role enables the IT Director to focus on strategic initiatives, systems architecture, integrations, and security.
The ideal candidate brings a strong technical support foundation, a service-oriented mindset, the ability to communicate clearly with non-technical users, and the organizational discipline to support a growing, operationally complex construction environment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • User Support & Help Desk: serve as the first point of contact for day-to-day technology requests, resolving tickets for laptops, tablets, phones, printers, email, VPN, MFA, and basic account issues; monitor help desk queues daily and communicate status clearly to employees until issues are resolved.
  • Office & Field Application Support: provide first-line support for office and field applications, including password resets and basic how-to guidance, and triage and escalate issues to the appropriate vendors with clear documentation of the problem and steps taken.
  • Device Lifecycle Management: manage the full lifecycle of laptops, tablets, phones, printers, and related equipment, including imaging, deployment, asset tracking, and replacement, maintaining an accurate inventory of company technology assets.
  • Office & Jobsite Connectivity: perform basic troubleshooting for office and jobsite connectivity, including Wi-Fi, switches, routers, and site trailer setups, and escalate more complex network issues to the IT Director or vendors as needed.
  • Accounts & Access Administration: create, modify, and disable user accounts in Microsoft 365 and key business applications, maintaining appropriate permissions and access levels in alignment with employee roles and HR changes, including onboarding, transfers, and offboarding.
  • Routine Monitoring & Maintenance: monitor core system health daily and perform regular checks on backups, patch status, and basic security items such as MFA enrollment and stale accounts; coordinate patch windows and scheduled maintenance with the IT Director and relevant vendors.
  • Documentation & Process Standardization: maintain and improve documentation for common tasks, including onboarding and offboarding, jobsite technology setup, and standard troubleshooting, and help standardize repeatable workflows to reduce single-point-of-failure risk and dependency on individual knowledge.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or closely related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive IT support or systems administration experience, preferably in a construction, field services, or multi-location environment.
  • Hands-on experience supporting Windows and mobile devices (iOS and/or Android), printers, and related peripherals, including device imaging and deployment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration, including user and license management, Exchange Online, Teams, and Entra ID (Azure AD).
  • Familiarity with basic networking concepts and equipment, including Wi-Fi, switches, routers, firewalls, and VPN.
  • Understanding of security best practices, including MFA, least-privilege access, patch management, and backup verification.
  • Experience using a help desk ticketing system and maintaining clear technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with construction industry applications such as Procore, Bluebeam, Autodesk, Viewpoint, Foundation, or comparable platforms preferred.
  • Industry certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, or Microsoft 365 certifications preferred.

ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
The physical and work environment requirements described below are representative of those necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals with disabilities on a case-by-case basis.
This position is primarily project site based and typically works Monday through Friday, averaging 8-10 hours per day based on business needs, project type, or phase.
While performing the duties of this role, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, communicate, and use standard computer and office equipment. Occasional repetitive hand and wrist movement may be required. The employee may occasionally lift or carry items up to 20 pounds.
This role may also require occasional visits to active construction project sites. Employees visiting job sites must be able to navigate uneven terrain and comply with all required safety procedures and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
