About the job

We're looking to hire our first IT Specialist to join our small team, ensuring seamless operations of our IT infrastructure and driving automation.

This position is hybrid, based out of our office in Mississauga.

About you

You want to work in a small team solving a big problem. You are excited by the prospect of revolutionizing multiple industries. You can juggle many tasks simultaneously. You are detail-oriented and love asking why many times till you understand something from first principles.

You have a proven track record in technical support, particularly within smaller organizations, and you excel in environments where you can wear multiple hats and manage various responsibilities.

What you will do:

IT Operations & Device Management
  • Own day-to-day IT operations across the company, including software updates, user accounts access, and employee onboarding and offboarding.

  • Install, configure, and maintain hardware, software, systems, networks, printers, and scanners for both in-office and remote employees.

  • Configure, secure, and maintain macOS, Windows, and Linux environments.

  • Monitor, maintain, and improve IT systems and networks to ensure performance, reliability, and security.

  • Serve as the primary IT point of contact for employees, providing guidance and best practices.

  • Have interest/experience working with business applications and SaaS management.

Security & Compliance
  • Execute and maintain IT and security controls to support compliance with data privacy regulations, including HIPAA, PIPEDA, and GDPR.

  • Own day-to-day management of the security and privacy compliance automation platform (Sprinto), including evidence collection, control monitoring, and audit readiness.

  • Partner closely with an external compliance consultant to implement and maintain security and compliance frameworks.

  • Translate security policies and frameworks into clear, practical, and enforceable IT processes.

  • Deliver IT and security policy training to employees (in person and remote).

Required Skills/Experience:
  • At least 3 years of experience in a similar role.

  • Previous experience as the first or sole IT hire in a growing company.

  • College/University degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.

  • Experience with executing IT policies and managing implementation projects.

  • Hands-on experience executing and maintaining IT security and compliance controls with or alongside compliance frameworks and external auditors/consultants.

  • Proven experience managing employee onboarding and offboarding, including device provisioning, access management and configuring and maintaining macOS, Windows, and Linux environments.

  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals and IT infrastructure best practices.

  • Experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting hardware and software for both in-office and remote teams.

  • Able to work independently, multitasking and efficiently to meet deadlines.

  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and organized.

  • Excellent people skills and time management skills.

Nice to have
  • Direct experience using or administering compliance automation platforms (e.g., Sprinto, Vanta, Drata, or similar).

  • Working knowledge of data privacy regulations, including HIPAA, PIPEDA, and GDPR.

  • CHPA, CHSS, or NIST certification, or working towards them.

  • Good knowledge of ISO/IEC 27001, an international standard for information security management

  • Experience with cloud services such as AWS, Azure, GCP; databases and query language such as SQL; Basic scripting experience (JavaScript, Python, or Bash).

  • Experience administering CRM business applications, ideally Salesforce.

  • Experience in a highly regulated industry processing healthcare related data.
