The Role
An IT Manager (Information Technology Manager) is the "Chief Architect" of a company's digital infrastructure. They ensure that all computer systems, networks, and software are functional, secure, and aligned with the organization's business goals.
Core Roles & Responsibilities
- Infrastructure Management: Overseeing the installation, maintenance, and upgrade of hardware (servers, laptops) and software (SaaS, OS) across the organization.
- Network Security: Implementing and managing Firewalls, VPNs, and antivirus protocols to protect company data from cyber threats.
- Strategic Planning: Collaborating with senior leadership to design long-term IT roadmaps and selecting technology that supports company growth.
- Budget & Vendor Management: Forecasting IT expenses, managing department budgets, and negotiating contracts with vendors like Microsoft, AWS, or Dell.
- Help Desk Oversight: Leading a team of IT support technicians to resolve employee technical issues quickly and maintain high productivity.
- Data Backup & Disaster Recovery: Designing and testing Disaster Recovery Plans to ensure business continuity in the event of a system failure or data breach.
- Compliance & Policy: Enforcing "Acceptable Use Policies" and ensuring the company meets legal standards like GDPR or SOC2.
- Project Management: Leading technical migrations, such as moving on-premise servers to Cloud Environments.
Essential Technical Stack
- ITSM Tools: Mastery of ticketing and asset management software like Jira Service Management or ServiceNow.
- Cloud Administration: Proficiency in managing Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, and Azure.
- Cybersecurity Tools: Familiarity with endpoint protection like CrowdStrike or Okta for identity management.
