Position Summary

We are seeking an IT / Service Desk Intern to help ensure the reliable operation of computers, software, and related technology so our clinical, administrative, and field employees can perform their responsibilities effectively.

The intern will receive, prioritize, document, and actively resolve end-user support requests. The role also involves escalating incidents when appropriate to maintain IT service levels and meet business expectations. Problem resolution will require the use of diagnostic software, remote-support tools, and help-request tracking systems.

This position provides in-person, hands-on desktop support for employees at our on-site clinic, as well as remote technical assistance to field employees. Because this role operates in a healthcare environment, the intern must handle sensitive information carefully and follow all applicable privacy, security, and organizational policies.

  • Receive, prioritize, document, track, and resolve incidents and service requests.
  • Provide courteous and timely technical assistance by phone, email, remote-support tools, and in person.
  • Troubleshoot computer hardware, software, printers, network connectivity, mobile devices, and other common technology issues.
  • Provide hands-on desktop support to clinical and administrative employees at the on-site clinic.
  • Provide remote technical assistance to field employees.
  • Escalate incidents to the appropriate IT team member or service provider when they cannot be resolved within the intern’s level of access or expertise.
  • Help minimize technology disruptions that could affect clinical or business operations.
  • Keep users informed about the status and expected resolution of their requests.
  • Document troubleshooting steps, resolutions, and relevant information in the help-request tracking system.
  • Follow established IT procedures, cybersecurity requirements, healthcare privacy practices, and service desk standards.
  • Assist with maintaining technical documentation and end-user support guides.
  • Identify recurring technical issues and bring them to the attention of IT management.

New-Hire Technology Setup and Distribution

  • Prepare, configure, and assign computers, mobile devices, accessories, and other approved technology to new employees.
  • Confirm that assigned equipment is properly recorded in the organization’s asset-management or inventory system.
  • Install required software and verify that equipment is secure and functioning correctly before distribution.
  • Package and ship technology equipment to remote and field employees in accordance with established procedures.
  • Coordinate shipment details and provide delivery or tracking information to the appropriate employee or manager.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment assignments, serial numbers, shipping details, and receipt confirmations.
  • Assist new hires with initial equipment setup and basic technology orientation.
  • Support employee offboarding by coordinating the secure return, reassignment, or handling of company technology.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing, or recently completed, a degree, diploma, certificate, or technical training in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of computer hardware, operating systems, software applications, networking, and troubleshooting methods.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft 365 applications is preferred.
  • Interest in developing experience with service desk operations, ticketing systems, remote-support tools, software deployment technologies, and IT asset management.
  • Strong customer-service and interpersonal skills.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work professionally with clinical, administrative, and field employees.
  • Ability to follow documented procedures and maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to organize work, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail when assigning, tracking, packaging, and shipping technology.
  • Willingness to learn, ask questions, and accept coaching.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with healthcare privacy, cybersecurity, and organizational requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an IT team.

As part of the internship, HV will pay for approved study materials and exam fees for the following industry-recognized certifications:

  • Ability to move, install, package, and connect standard computer equipment and peripherals.
  • Availability to work two to three days per week, with shifts of five to eight hours based on availability and organizational needs.
