The Role

REW is looking for an experienced IT Administrator to join our high tech, high performing team, who will provide their technical expertise and support across the organization.

This is a hybrid opportunity that exists at our downtown Nanaimo (Vancouver Island) location.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as point of contact for internal customers seeking technical assistance, eliciting problem details.
  • Onboarding and Offboarding of new/departing employees, including equipment provisioning, software deployment.
  • Assists in the maintenance of hardware inventory management.
  • Document pertinent end user identification information, including name, department, contact information, and nature of problem or issue.
  • Prioritize and schedule problems. Escalate problems (when required) to the appropriate department. 
  • Record, track, and document help desk request problem-solving process, including all successful/unsuccessful actions taken, through to final resolution. 
  • Perform remote troubleshooting through proven diagnostic techniques. 
  • Access software updates, anti-virus installs, drivers, knowledge bases, and frequently asked questions resources on the internet to aid in problem resolution. 
  • Research current standards for security, remote work, and physical hardware.
  • Understanding of software and hardware used and supported by the organization. 
  • Perform hands-on fixes at the desktop and server level, including installing and upgrading software, installing hardware, implementing file backups, and configuring systems and applications. 
  • Test fixes to ensure problems are resolved. Perform post-resolution follow-ups.. 
  • Develop help sheets and frequently asked questions lists for end users.
  • Facilities support as required.
  • Tech and Admin support as required.

Qualifications that will help to have for this role:

  • Certificate or college diploma in the field of IT/IM and/or two years equivalent work experience. CompTIA A+ or equivalent preferred. 
  • Tech savvy with working knowledge of office automation products, databases and remote control.
  • Knowledge of basic computer hardware, including desktops, notebooks, printers, basic networking concepts, firewalls, and switches. 
  • Experience with desktop and server operating systems, including Windows 10, Server R2, and MacOS.  Experience with Linux systems is preferred. 
  • Basic knowledge of Shell scripting, Batch scripting, with some PowerShell preferred.
  • Familiarity with git, PHP and MySQL is an asset.
  • Familiarity with GSuite is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of a range of basic diagnostic utilities, including Command prompt, Remote Desktop, Google search, and Terminal.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a focus on rapport-building, listening, and questioning skills.

Adjusting thinking and adapting to changes as the work environment shifts is necessary for this role to demonstrate Flexibility and Managing Uncertainty. The IT Administrator will be able to work effectively in an unstructured environment, following and documenting processes and practices .

The IT Administrator is skilled at prioritizing and completing tasks accurately and on time with high expectations of self and others.

Prioritizes and actions internal customer needs are expectations of the IT Administrator to demonstrate Customer Focus. The administrative role will be relied on to respond promptly and accurately to requests, keep internal customers up-to-date and informed on activities, and share concerns or opportunities for improvement.
