Investment Stewardship Operations Analyst, Data, Operations and Controls

Serves as an analyst supporting day-to-day investment stewardship operations to enable Vanguard’s investment stewardship efforts in proxy voting and engagement.

Vanguard’s Investment Stewardship program acts as a voice for our investors to promote strong corporate governance focused on long-term investment returns at the companies in which our funds invest. Our Investment Stewardship program is closely aligned with Vanguard’s core purpose “to take a stand for all investors, to treat them fairly, and to give them the best chance for investment success.” Investment Stewardship supports this mission by engaging with executive leadership teams and boards of directors of the companies in which the Vanguard-advised funds invest, as well as voting at shareholder meetings to make sure that investors’ interests are always a priority. 

 

In this role, you will be an analyst supporting the operational, risk, and control environments of Vanguard’s Investment Stewardship efforts. Your responsibilities will include integrating new funds into stewardship’s operations; preparing documentation for proxy voting; liaising with internal partners, such as securities lending, corporate actions and legal teams, to enable effective proxy voting; assisting with monitoring vendor relationships; and assisting in the preparation of regulatory disclosures associated with proxy voting. This role will be based in Malvern, PA, USA or London, UK.

 

Core Responsibilities 
 

• Supports day-to-day proxy voting operations and technology platforms in
  order to facilitate voting volumes and ensure compliance with internal and
  external deadlines. 
• Monitors technology and process solutions to advance the impact of Vanguard’s corporate governance activities. Troubleshoots issues and maintains stability throughout the proxy voting process. Recognizes opportunities for improvement and recommends changes. 
• Drafts documentation in support of internal and external reporting on Vanguard's investment stewardship activities, including fund holdings, proxy voting, and engagement. Tracks potential volumes of proxy votes, company meetings, and other activities. 
• Maintains investment stewardship dashboards and creates reports to provide visibility into operational effectiveness. Monitors daily control reporting to ensure compliance with policies and procedures. 
• Assists in integrating new funds and securities into Vanguard's corporate governance operations and technology platforms. 
• Supports and participates in communications with internal and external stakeholders and business partners to ensure issues are resolved in a timely manner. 
• Serves as a resource for, and works in partnership with  experienced crew members  on Vanguard’s Investment Stewardship operations and technology platforms. 
• Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned. 

What it takes: 

• Financial services operations-related work experience. 
• Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. 
• Experience in proxy voting, investment operations, audit, risk or compliance, preferred. 
• Experience in managing multiple stakeholders with competing needs. 
• Ability to demonstrate approach to problem-solving and interest in helping to find solutions to complex issues. 
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively to achieve the best results.
