The Role

Prime Purpose of Role

• To perform independent oversight and provide reassurance to senior management that funds are being managed in line with their objectives/mandates.

• To assist fund managers in maximising alpha through detailed understanding of portfolio risk characteristics and drivers.

• To support and drive the development of the analytics risk infrastructure of the Investment Risk Team

Main Responsibilities

  • Development of the analytics and reports utilised in portfolio risk oversight with a focus on market and liquidity risk.
  • Play a key role in the development of the database and technological infrastructure used by the investment risk function.
  • This will include developing the suite of outputs by leveraging BI tools, undertaking project work where necessary for system enhancements, new product or regulatory developments.
  • Develop and maintain a solid understanding of each investment team’s management process and how this links to risk management.
  • Work alongside colleagues in Performance Analytics to provide insights on portfolio ex-post outcomes and how they link to ex-ante risk positioning.
  • Take a proactive role in driving forward new analytics, which may add value to either the portfolio management and/or risk oversight processes.
  • Provide support and insights to the Head of Investment in his ongoing product development and front line oversight of the investment teams.
  • Participation in the formal oversight process which will include:
    • Daily monitoring and independent review of portfolio risk to identify any material risk changes or emerging risks.
    • Active participation in regular investment strategy oversight meetings chaired by the Head of Investment.
    • Active participation in other relevant governance forums as required.
  • Responding to ad-hoc requests for risk analysis from fund managers and senior management.
  • Escalation of any significant risk issues identified in a timely manner

Regulatory Responsibilities

To conduct themselves in accordance with the regulatory requirements and obligations of the regulated entities, paying due regard to the Financial Conduct Authority's Senior Manager and Certification Regime.

Key Skills

• Minimum BSc, ideally MSc educated within Engineering, Statistics/Mathematics, Computer Science highly regarded.

• Relevant working experience in developing and maintaining data infrastructures

• Proved coding skills in SQL and Python to support data manipulation, automation and analysis

• Working experience in BI/Visualisation tools development and utilisation a plus

• Strong theoretical and working knowledge of factor risk modelling and stress testing techniques are essential

• Ability to communicate complex risk modelling techniques in an understandable manner.

• Working knowledge of the Factset platform beneficial

• An understanding of the regulatory environment relating to risk oversight is a plus
