Bolton is a full-service HR & Benefits Consulting firm with four decades of experience helping organizations make confident workforce decisions. Bolton’s Investment practice specifically provides independent investment consulting and advisory services to corporate, public sector, and multi-employer retirement plans. The team supports clients in strengthening plan governance and improving long-term financial outcomes.  

ABOUT THE ROLE 

Provide support to consulting teams and department initiatives. Must have sound technical and organizational skills, a capacity to learn through experience, and a strong commitment to meet agreed upon timeframes and deadlines. The Investment Intern position provides the opportunity to develop technical knowledge, build client management skills, gain knowledge from industry leading consultants to build a great professional career in financial and professional services.   

Position may work up to 37.5 hours per week during the fall semester. We request a minimum of 15 hours per week. Hours are flexible (candidate may set their own schedule within reason – generally during standard business hours) but must be agreed upon with manager and followed.  

This is a temporary position for a fall internship. Candidates hired for this position may be considered for an internship extension into the spring/summer or full-time positions following graduation. Students must be able to work from our headquarters in Towson, MD. Housing assistance or stipends will not be provided for this position, beyond the regular hourly pay rate for those who are not otherwise living or attending school locally.  

WHAT YOU'LL DO 

The following list of duties and responsibilities are examples of the work successful candidates will be asked to perform. Candidates may not be involved with all of these functions as a regular part of their duties.  

  • Support consultants on annual, quarterly, monthly standard and ad hoc client reports, projects, and analyses.  
  • The main projects the candidate will be supporting are financial reporting for retirement plans and investment manager research.  
  • Communicate and coordinate effectively with colleagues and clients regarding data collection and project tasks.   
  • Create documents and materials for meetings based on standard formats.   
  • Provide support to small & mid-market client consultants.   
  • Assist in crafting proposals.   
  • Develop a good working relationship with all levels of staff.   
  • Increase efficiency by identifying ways to improve processes.

Required Qualifications 

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).  
  • INTERNSHIP: College students that are enrolled in a degree program related to Mathematics, Finance, and Economics are preferred. However, college students that are enrolled in a degree program related to Statistics & Actuarial Science, Business, or other quantitative and analytical discipline will also be considered. The ideal candidate will be entering their junior or senior year of college or enrolled in a post-graduate degree program.  
  • Flexibility and ability to work independently, diagnose and resolve issues, and meet client deadlines.  
  • Great communication skills and presentations skills. 
  • Experience working as part of a team, including extracurricular activities, clubs, sports teams, etc. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Previous experience in an office setting is preferred.  
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel is required; Word and PowerPoint is also preferred. 

Travel Requirements  

  • Estimated travel: Minimal 
  • May include local day travel and occasional conferences or training events

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS  

  • Hourly Rate: $22.00 / hour
