Job Description

At Aberdeen, our ambition is to be the UK’s leading Wealth & Investments group.

Strengthening talent and culture is one of our strategic priorities. We strive to make Aberdeen a great place to work so that we can attract and retain the industry’s best talent.

Our people put our stakeholders at the heart of everything they do by helping us to make a positive difference to the lives of our clients, customers, colleagues, shareholders, and society.

We are focused on growing our direct and advised wealth platforms and repositioning our specialist asset management business to meet client demand. We are committed to providing excellent client service, supported by leading technology and talent.

Aberdeen comprises three businesses, interactive investor (ii), Investments, and Adviser, each of which focuses on meeting and adapting to our clients’ evolving needs:

  • interactive investor, the UK’s second largest direct-to-consumer investment platform, enables individuals in the UK to plan, save, and invest in the way that works for them.

  • Our Adviser business provides financial planning solutions and technology for UK financial advisers, enabling them to create value for their customers.

  • Our Investments business is a specialist asset manager that focuses on areas where we have both strength and scale to capitalise on the key themes shaping the market, through either public markets or alternative asset classes.

About the Department

The Developed Market Credit team sits within our global Fixed Income platform, a high-performing and collaborative environment managing over £130bn in assets across a diverse range of strategies. The team delivers both traditional and innovative ESG-focused solutions across investment grade and high yield credit, supporting institutional and retail clients worldwide. With a strong focus on teamwork rather than individual ownership, you will work closely with experienced colleagues across geographies to drive consistent performance and innovation. Together, the team enables our clients to be better investors through disciplined research, partnership and forward-thinking investment strategies.

About the Role

As an Investment Director – Portfolio Manager, you will play a key role in managing Euro and Global Investment Grade Credit portfolios and potentially covering specific sectors within the European credit universe, contributing to both performance and innovation within a well-established team. This is a senior opportunity within a globally recognised investment platform, offering scope to shape portfolios, influence strategy and further develop your expertise in credit markets. You will combine top-down thematic views with bottom-up research to deliver strong client outcomes while contributing to a collaborative and inclusive culture. The role is based in London or Edinburgh with a blended working pattern and offers long-term career progression in a growth area of the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage Euro and Global Investment Grade Credit portfolios, delivering strong risk-adjusted returns

  • Construct portfolios using macroeconomic insights alongside fundamental credit analysis

  • Actively manage duration, yield curve positioning, sector allocation and issuer exposure

  • Ensure portfolios operate within mandate guidelines, risk limits and regulatory requirements

  • Identify relative value opportunities across markets, sectors and instruments

  • Communicate portfolio performance, positioning and investment views to clients and stakeholders

About the Candidate

  • Strong experience in fixed income markets, particularly investment grade credit

  • Proven experience in portfolio management or credit research with a focus on generating alpha

  • Deep understanding of credit spreads, duration, curves and valuation frameworks

  • Deep understanding of fundamental credit and equity analysis

  • Demonstrated ability to generate alpha across the cycle and to operate effectively under market stress

  • Clear and confident communication skills, both written and verbal
