Strategy Intern

Octane is gaining traction quickly with customers, as evidenced by growth in originations through our platform of more than $1B since inception. Octane works with more than 3,500 merchants in the USA and offers promotional financing with low rates for more than 40 OEM brands. Because we’re the platform and the lender, we have both high growth and positive unit economics - rare for a fintech. We have raised more than $192M in capital from leading investors, including Valar Ventures, IA Ventures, Contour Venture Partners, Third Prime, Progressive Insurance and Citi Ventures and our lending securities are rated AA by Standard & Poor’s.
Octane is seeking someone who is energized by operating in an ambiguous environment; where having a growth mindset is key to advancing our business expansion into new verticals. We are looking for someone who excels at diving into ambiguous large problems, breaking them down and analyzing the best paths forward.
As an intern in the Strategy team you will be responsible for researching and developing the strategy that will allow Octane to launch into new, multi-billion-dollar lending verticals.
You will have the opportunity to quickly learn about new industries, understand their problems and needs, the competitive landscape and market and determine how Octane can better serve consumers in the space. You will partner with stakeholders across the organization (eg. engineering, operations, risk, servicing, data) as well as other organizations in order to create the case for whether Octane should enter that market, and how. You will need to be comfortable managing and understanding constantly evolving macro circumstances and be able to assess and communicate strategies accordingly. This position is part of the Octane Strategy team and reports to the Director of Strategy. This will be a ten week internship starting June 6 and ending August 12.
Responsibilities Include:
- Manipulating and analyzing data and breaking down complex problems into manageable components in order to communicate effectively key concerns and actions required
- Working closely with sales, risk, product and other teams in order to develop the go to market strategy, as well as highlight other areas of exploration
- Outlining a new market analysis showcasing competitor analysis, macro trends and underserved markets
- Rigorously measuring and reporting on your team’s objectives and key results.
What We Look For:
- Bachelor’s degree required with demonstrated academic and extracurricular excellence followed by 3-5 years of business strategy experience, consulting or equivalent
- Currently enrolled in an accredited MBA program
- Comfort with manipulating data sets, researching industry and market trends and combining data sources
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Self-starter who thrives on autonomy
- Proficiency with Microsoft (Excel, Word and PowerPoint) and G-Suite
