I. Job Summary
The Intern position is within WM's Corporate Accounting Team starting June 1- August 19. The selected candidate(s) will be part of a dynamic team where you can add value but also learn, develop and move forward in your career! As an intern, you may work across a variety of accounting functions, including external reporting, corporate, field and landfill accounting. You will also develop relationships with team leaders and make an impact with your developing accounting skills. Ultimately, a successful Intern will be a problem solver who can use critical thinking and analytical skills to support and bring value to the work being performed within the accounting department.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned and may vary by location.
- Assists with drafting and validating accuracy of financial schedules, journal entries, financial statements, footnote disclosures.
- Researches and reviews US GAAP and SEC regulations.
- Reads and understands accounting policies and procedures and financial disclosures.
- Coordinates with our external auditors for timely delivery of client prepared documentation.
- Assists with the execution and documentation of internal controls; and
- Communicates issues and roadblocks related to areas of responsibility.
- Assists with special projects within the Accounting function, as needed.
- Ability to think critically and communicate concisely, thoughtfully, and persuasively in person and in writing

IV. Qualifications

A. Education and Experience
- Interns must have a High school diploma and be pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Completed Course Work Hours: 60.0 [This would indicate student is at least a Junior]
- Minimum GPA: 3.0
B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements
- None required.
C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required
- Ability to work well with others across a variety of levels and skillsets
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Interest in business, accounting and finance issues, topics, and trends
