Wellington Health Care Alliance (WHCA) is seeking Physician Champions to support the organization’s planning and implementation of a modern Health Information System (HIS).

The Physician Champion is a site-based medical leadership role for physicians who are committed to ensuring the HIS implementation reflects the realities of medical practice at WHCA. Physician Champions will act as a trusted clinical voice for medical staff at their site, engaging colleagues in the process and providing critical input on physician workflows, order management, and clinical documentation. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape digital health at WHCA while building expertise in clinical systems.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the site Chief of Staff (with matrix accountability to the HIS Project Team), the Physician Champion will represent physician perspectives at their assigned site throughout the HIS implementation, from workflow design through go-live and stabilization.

These roles are designed to leverage the Physician Champion's direct clinical expertise to ensure the HIS is configured in a way that supports safe, efficient medical practice, reflects site-specific physician workflows, and builds physician confidence in the new system.

Why Consider This Role?

  • Develop expertise in clinical informatics, digital health, and HIS implementation
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary project teams, nursing, and clinical leaders
  • Help design workflows, and clinical tools that support excellent patient care

SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical Workflow & System Design

  • Serve as the primary physician voice at your site throughout the HIS implementation
  • Participate in current-state and future-state physician workflow analysis
  • Review and validate order sets, physician documentation templates, and clinical decision support tools
  • Ensure HIS configuration reflects safe, practical medical practice at your site

Testing & Validation

  • Participate in system and user acceptance testing from a physician perspective
  • Identify, document, and escalate physician-related workflow issues or gaps identified during testing
  • Review and validate clinical content such as order sets, protocols, and physician documentation templates

Training & Go‑Live Support

  • Support development of physician-specific training materials and reference tools
  • Provide peer coaching and at-the-elbow support to medical staff during training and go-live
  • Help identify engaged physician colleagues who can provide peer support during stabilization

Physician Engagement & Communication

  • Act as a visible and credible point of contact for physician questions, concerns, and feedback at your site
  • Communicate project updates, timelines, and key decisions to medical staff in accessible language
  • Gather and relay physician feedback to the project team to inform configuration and change management decisions
  • Participate in relevant medical advisory or leadership forums as appropriate

Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Clinical Informatics Lead, Nursing Champions, and the broader HIS project team
  • Partner with the site Chief of Staff and hospital leadership to support physician change readiness
  • Collaborate with Physician Champions at other WHCA sites to promote consistency where clinically appropriate

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Licensed physician in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
