Internship
Summer 2027

About Hextronics
Hex is building the infrastructure for on-demand aerial data. We design and manufacture drone-in-a-box systems that automate repetitive drone operations, taking humans out of the loop so the people who depend on aerial data can move faster. We're a small, agile team, we move fast, take on extreme ownership, and build products in months, not years.
The Role
Hex interns do real work. You’ll join one of our teams, contribute to a scoped project, and ship something the team actually uses. We’re hiring interns across engineering and operations and will match you to a team based on your background and interests:
Engineering: Electronics (electrical and embedded/firmware), Hardware (mechanical design), Software
Operations: Production, Flight Operations, Business Operations
What You’ll Do
Own a defined project with a clear deliverable, with a mentor on your team
Work hands-on with our drone and dock systems in the lab and in the field
Take part in team standups, design reviews, and testing
Present your work to the team at the end of the summer
Projects are matched to each intern's background and the team's current priorities, so responsibilities vary. They may include:
Mechanical design: parts, assemblies, jigs, and fixtures in Fusion 360, fabricated with 3D printing, CNC machining, or sheet metal
Electrical design: schematics, PCB layout, wiring harnesses, and board bring-up and debug on the bench
Firmware: embedded code for the microcontrollers that run motors, sensors, power, and communications on our drones and docks
Software: features for our web, cloud, and onboard flight software in Python, C/C++, or React, plus internal tools and scripts
Systems integration: bringing mechanical, electrical, and software pieces together and debugging the problems that fall between them
Test and validation: planning and running tests on components, subsystems, and full systems, including flight tests, then analyzing and presenting the data
Manufacturing and production: assembly support, process documentation, build quality checks, and process improvements on the production floor
Root cause analysis on hardware and software issues from the field and the production floor
Documenting your work so the team can build on it after your internship ends
Working well with Artificial Intelligence to maximize functional output
