As a Technology Intern, you’ll work alongside the teams building BHSI’s next-generation technology platforms, including AI-powered solutions, policy and underwriting systems, finance applications, and API-driven services. These cloud-based platforms are transforming how we serve our brokers, customers, and business partners.
During this 12-week paid internship, you will become an active member of an Agile Scrum team, partnering with experienced engineers to contribute to software development and quality engineering initiatives. You’ll gain hands-on experience with modern technologies, learn how software is designed, built, tested, and deployed, and see firsthand how technology supports the insurance lifecycle from quote to policy. You’ll also have the opportunity to explore how artificial intelligence can enhance software development and drive innovation across the business.

Opportunity:
We are seeking a motivated and curious individual to join our Boston office with the Technology team as a Summer Intern. This 12-week paid internship offers a deep dive into the world of Technology.
You will:
- Participate as a member of an agile scrum team, including sprint planning, daily standups, reviews, and retrospectives
- Design, build, test, and document software solutions across the various platforms, such as integrations, APIs, automation, and internal tools, with guidance from experienced engineers
- Develop and execute test cases, and contribute to automated testing that improves quality and speed of delivery
- Investigate, reproduce, and troubleshoot defects, and help identify root causes
- Use AI-assisted development and testing tools to accelerate your work, and share what you learn with the team
- Take ownership of assigned work items and follow them through to completion
- Communicate progress, questions, and blockers clearly with teammates and stakeholders
- Present your work and learnings to the team and technology leadership at the end of the internship

Qualifications:
- Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
- Hands-on coding experience through coursework, personal projects, hackathons, or prior internships
- Understanding of the software development lifecycle, including how software is designed, built, tested, and delivered
- Experience with, or strong interest in, using AI tools to accelerate software development and testing
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel; experience with formulas, pivot tables, and comparing or analyzing data is a plus
- Basic SQL skills and an interest in working with raw data; experience querying, reviewing, or validating data is a plus
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy
- Curiosity and eagerness to learn new technologies and the insurance business
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Pay Transparency:
The base salary range for this position in Boston is from $25/hour - $28/hour; a candidate’s salary is determined by their relevant skills and experience. We value our teammates – both their capabilities and character – as demonstrated by our amazing culture.
