Purpose of team and role: 

The Digital Legal Office (DLO) is Lilly Legal’s global team for data, AI, technology, innovation and operational excellence.  Along with data governance, AI governance and cybersecurity legal, the team owns Lilly’s Privacy Program supported by Attorneys, Data Protection Officers, Privacy Subject Matter Experts and GRC Professionals.  DLO manages privacy risk through frameworks, standards and control measures/mechanisms, aligned with global laws and external regulations.  DLO’s Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC) team help orchestrate privacy risk management throughout the full lifecycle, from establishing/managing frameworks, governance documentation, engineering controls, risk assessments, monitoring, coordinating incidents/issues, and enabling measurable visibility to drive data-based decisions. 

As the DLO GRC Intern, you will learn how our GRC team helps enable Lilly to move at the speed the business needs while remaining compliant with the fast-paced and ever-changing digital legal landscape of Privacy, AI and Cybersecurity laws and regulations.  You will have an opportunity as part of this global team to gain hands-on experience with Cork and US based colleagues in data protection (privacy), managing risk, DLO service management, legal innovation projects and how this gets translated into business requirements/action. 

Responsibilities:  

• Supporting DLO Services — processes/systems that provide defined value (e.g., forms, consultations, assessments) to Lilly business owned the DLO team require maintenance to keep DLO’s operations running and to a consistent standard. 

• Supporting Privacy Control Framework — help Lilly (via control owners) ensure controls are implemented and effective, through GRC activities such as tracking, reviewing, escalating, and closing Control Owner Attestations. 

• Privacy Incident Management — triage and reassign cases/events, carry out quality reviews, support records management and reporting to help identify trends or potential control gaps/weaknesses that may lead to a control issue for remediation. 

• Coordinate Control Issues — through full lifecycle from creation to closure: review, triage, apply risk ratings, track, escalate, follow-up on action plans, ensure closure by deadlines. 

• Maintain Governance Documentation — help maintain DLO Service Catalogue, procedures, process flows, job aids and FAQs so they stay current, accurate and easy to use. 

• Measurements, Metrics and Data Quality — support data cleanliness, completeness and consistency across the control measurements, DLO service metrics and databases the team maintains, so that dashboards, KRIs/KPIs and risk indicators are reliable and readily available. 

• Technology, Workflow and Automation Support — help maintain and improve the tools and workflows behind DLO services and controls — for example ServiceNow, Microsoft PowerAutomate/PowerBI and AI agents — by documenting requirements, testing changes, and identifying opportunities to simplify, integrate AI and/or automate routine steps. 

Requirements:  

• Currently enrolled in 3rd level education and ready to pursue a student placement as part of an undergraduate or master’s programme. 

• Field of study related to Law, Compliance, Risk Management, Business/Management Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or Data Science. 

• Well organised and detail-oriented, ready for a fast-paced international environment with strict deadlines. 

• Some practical experience / exposure to data analysis, reporting tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Power BI) or AI/automation, whether through coursework, a project, or prior work experience.  

• An interest in Digital Law, Data Protection, Privacy, AI, Service Management, GRC and/or Risk Management is an advantage; a willingness to learn matters most.
