Data Engineers in Grab get to work on one of the largest and fastest growing data lakes of any company in South East Asia. We operate in a challenging, fast paced and ever changing environment that will push you to grow and learn.

Our mission? Provide self-service data ingestion platforms with intuitive interface for all users at Grab and affiliates to ingest any data with business value at configurable freshness SLOs, cost effectively and reliably to data lake with intelligent automations to minimize the ongoing maintenance effort throughout the lifecycle of the pipeline.

Get to Know the Role

You will support the mission of the team by maintaining and extending the platform capabilities through implementation of new features to support new ingestion use cases, automations to reduce the effort and incorporating new technologies to drive efficiency. You will go the extra mile to support platform users to get their job done reliably with minimum effort.

You will work onsite in HCMC and report to the Engineering Manager, who is based in Singapore.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

• Maintain and extend the python backend APIs and automations used by the ingestion platform.
• Maintain and extend the scala spark applications we use for data ingestion.
• Design and Implement improvements to the existing architecture to support new use cases or improve efficiency.
• Follow testing & SRE best practices to ensure the stability of the system.

What Essential Skills You Will Need

• Able to commit to a full-time internship (40 hours per week) in 6 months and work onsite at Grab HCMC office.
• Undergraduate in Software Engineering, Computer Science. We are also happy to hire students from other quantitative fields who are passionate about programming & and have built some cool software applications in the past.
• Proficiency in Python or Scala.
• Familiarity with data pipelines and related technology such as Airflow, Spark, S3, Relational DBs, Kafka, Flink and SQL.
• Experience implementing backend APIs.
• Familiarity with AWS & Terraform.
