Position Overview:
As a Mechanical Engineer in our Pittsburgh office, you will provide engineering design, analysis, and technical support for projects within the energy and infrastructure sectors. You will work as part of multidisciplinary project teams to develop practical, efficient, and code-compliant mechanical systems and solutions. Depending on experience level, you will contribute to or lead technical activities, coordinate engineering deliverables, support project execution, and provide technical guidance to less-experienced team members.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Engineering & Design

  • Perform and oversee mechanical engineering design and analysis for energy and infrastructure projects.
  • Develop and review engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, technical reports, and design documentation.
  • Design and evaluate mechanical systems and equipment appropriate to project requirements, including piping, HVAC, equipment, utilities, and related systems.
  • Develop equipment specifications, data sheets, schedules, and technical procurement documentation.
  • Apply applicable mechanical codes, standards, regulations, and client requirements to engineering work.
  • Evaluate existing mechanical systems and facilities and develop recommendations for modifications, upgrades, repairs, or replacement.
  • Review engineering deliverables for technical accuracy, constructability, quality, and compliance with project requirements.
Project & Multidisciplinary Coordination
  • Coordinate mechanical engineering activities with civil, structural, electrical, process, controls, and other project disciplines.
  • Support or lead development of project scopes, schedules, estimates, and technical deliverables.
  • Participate in design reviews, interdisciplinary coordination meetings, and technical discussions.
  • Coordinate with equipment vendors, manufacturers, contractors, fabricators, and other third parties.
  • Review vendor documentation, equipment data, and technical submittals for compliance with project requirements.
  • Provide technical input to resolve design, construction, and field-related issues.
Technical Leadership
  • Serve as a technical resource for project teams on mechanical engineering matters.
  • Lead or oversee mechanical engineering tasks and deliverables based on experience level.
  • Establish appropriate design criteria, methodologies, and engineering approaches for assigned work.
  • Review work prepared by less-experienced engineers and provide technical direction and mentoring.
  • Support technical decision-making and promote consistent application of engineering standards and best practices.
Field & Construction Support
  • Support field investigations, site surveys, construction activities, commissioning, and equipment inspections as required.
  • Review contractor submittals, requests for information, and field conditions and provide appropriate engineering responses.
  • Assist with troubleshooting mechanical systems and resolving construction or installation issues.
  • Participate in equipment inspections, testing, startup, and commissioning activities as applicable.
  • Travel to project sites and client locations as required.
Client & Business Development
  • Communicate technical information effectively with clients, project teams, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in client meetings, presentations, project reviews, and technical discussions.
  • Support preparation of proposals, scopes of work, engineering estimates, and technical qualifications.
  • Contribute to development of client relationships and identification of new project opportunities.
  • Support continuous improvement of engineering practices, tools, and project delivery methods.
Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Intermediate level: 4–9 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience.
  • Senior level: 10+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience.
  • Experience in the energy, power, utilities, industrial, infrastructure, or related sectors is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is required or strongly preferred, depending on role and project responsibilities.
  • Experience with multidisciplinary engineering projects and coordination is preferred.
Technical Skills
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, design practices, applicable codes, and industry standards.
  • Experience with mechanical systems, equipment, piping, HVAC, utilities, or other systems relevant to energy and infrastructure projects.
  • Ability to prepare and review engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, equipment data sheets, and technical reports.
  • Familiarity with common mechanical engineering, design, modeling, and analysis software and tools.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical, process, civil, structural, electrical, and other technical documentation.
  • Understanding of equipment selection, system integration, constructability, and field installation considerations.
  • Ability to evaluate technical alternatives and develop practical engineering solutions.
