How you'll make a difference:

  • Work collaboratively alongside mechanical engineers and technologists in designing plumbing, drainage, fire protection, heating, ventilation and cooling systems for various types of commercial and institutionalbuildings. 
  • Manage, coordinate and prepare documentation from schematic design to construction documents 
  • Synthesize energy modelling, building information modelling, value engineering and life cycle costing to determine the optimum mechanical system solutions  
  • Develop innovative mechanical systems that drive sustainability, decarbonization, resilience, and wellbeing 
  • Collaborate with architects, interior designers, structural and electrical engineers to create truly integrated and innovative design solutions 
  • Perform engineering studies which may include analysis, condition assessments, and renewal planning. Formulate studies into written technical reports and presentations 
  • Help lead junior staff by delegating tasks and providing technical guidance and support 

Who you are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required 
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer with PEO or another provincial engineering association  
  • 4 - 9 years of direct experience in the design of plumbing, drainage, fire protection, heating, ventilation and cooling systems for commercial and institutional buildings 
  • LEED accreditation is considered an asset 
  • Experience with BIM software (REVIT) is preferred 
  • Demonstrated experience in sustainable design practices 
  • Strong understanding and experience with schematic design, design development, contract documents, and contract administration.
  • Experience with performing load calculations, detailed design calculations, psychrometrics, and equipment selections 
  • Experience with engineering studies and condition assessments. 
  • Experience in specification writing   
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Self-motivated and organized with an attention to detail 
  • Collaborative, team oriented, and enjoys sharing knowledge. 
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects and various deadlines
