The Intermediate Accountant supports the daily operations of the accounting function and assists senior accountants within Blackstone’s growing, 8-person finance and accounting team. This person will help maintain accurate financial records, assist or lead some transactional accounting tasks, and support monthly close activities. The Intermediate Accountant plays an essential part in ensuring financial integrity and supporting scalable processes as the company expands. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with Senior Accounting team, including the Controller, to prepare financial and project reporting for the Blackstone Group of companies within corporate deadlines
- Contribute to the AR and AP functions, including detailed allocations
- Contribute to month-end P&L and/or project review
- Support year end close processes and assemble documentation and information for external audit
- Prepare month-end reconciliations
- Prepare banking requirements including review and approval of EFT and wire payments
- Review customer deposit accounts and ensure proper documentation (invoice vs. progress approval certificate) is issued to draw down funds
- Collaborate with internal partners and departments for finance-related requests and queries
- Identify improvement opportunities in systems/processes
- Conduct special projects as assigned
- Manage conflicting priorities
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Recent graduate from a post-secondary/University Degree with a concentration in finance or accounting
· 3-5 years experience in an accounting and/or financial reporting role
· Proficiency with Quick Books and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
· Experience in Unanet, a project based financial integration software, is an asset
· Experience managing/preparing financial reporting for multiple entities
· Strong analytic, problem solving and critical thinking skills
· Effective time management and organization skills
· Detail oriented
· Excellent oral and written communication skills
· The ability to work independently and in a team environment
· Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline oriented, and project-based environment
· Completion or interest in pursuing a professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent) an asset, but not required
· Public accounting experience an asset
· Comprehension of project life cycle accounting is beneficial
