SUMMARY: The Insurance Benefits Coordinator assists the Human Resource Director in conducting the Fiduciary Responsibilities for the insurance benefits offered to the regular employees of AVCP. Participates in Annual Financial Audits as noted by the annual renewal of benefits and other administrative responsibilities shall apply. Oversight of the AVCP health, dental, vision, life insurance; accidental death & dismemberment and long-term disability insurance plans – including enrollment, billing, auditing, open enrollment and change enrollment. Reports directly to the Human Resources Director. 

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: including the following. Other duties as assigned.

  • Maintains insurance benefit orientation materials for all new hires, open enrollment meetings, to include Power Point presentation, verbiage for local HR use, and possible handouts.
  • Utilizing survey data, recommends and assists the HR Director in the development of improved policies and plans regarding employee benefits.
  • Conduct research on a case-by-case basis for current legislation pertaining to benefit issues.
  • Develop and maintain Internal Operating Procedures for insurance benefits.
  • Analyze, evaluate, maintain records, and administer LOAs to include Military, LTD and FMLA as noted by the Employee Handbook.
  • Work closely with the Human Resource Director and the Finance Department on problem resolutions and maintain knowledge of processes to assist when required.
  • Assists the Human Resource Director in overseeing the EAP plans by scheduling employee training, management training, and providing updates/information to all.
  • Assist in preparing insurance benefit information for applicable rehires and transfers.
  • Continue to keep abreast of current legislation COBRA, HIPAA, Medicare, ERISA, etc. and its effect on benefit administration.
  • Assist with other duties as required: Audit requests, annual open enrollment, renewals and qualifying event changes and renewals. 
  • Monthly review of all statements and database for accurate and current enrollment information to include adjusting the statement, as needed. 
  • Assists new and existing employee enrollments, changes and closures of benefits plans as noted under ERISA and plan guidelines. 
  • Proactively enrolls or changes enrollments for employees with the carriers as needed. 
  • Completion of reports regarding benefits as requested.
  • Processes all correspondence/questionnaires relating to benefits from various agencies and vendors.
  • Ability to work well with various partners.
  • Assists in the training programs within the Human Resources Department to include Benefit presentations.
  • Assists with all other HR Functions when needed.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of information. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCIES:

Education:

High school diploma or GED required. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university is preferred.

At least two (2) years of direct experience in related benefit or employee benefit administration is required.

Skills:

Strong knowledge and understanding of insurance regulations, plan designs and third-party record-keeping/administration required.  

Strong knowledge of COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA and related state and federal regulations required.  

Proven ability to write reports and correspondence as required. 

Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment is required.  

Must have strong written and verbal skills.

High level administrative skills are required. 

Strong interpersonal skills are required.

Familiarity with Yup’ik lifestyles is preferred.

Fluency in Yup’ik is preferred. 

Proficiency in office and computer equipment and software is required to include Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Publisher, Power Point, Outlook.
