POSITION SUMMARY
Performs all aspects of Application Engineering work to support the submittal of client proposals. Works directly with customers, vendors and Dearing sales, engineering and manufacturing personnel. The Applications Engineer will participate in sizing, estimating and generating proposals for natural gas compressor packages and related components for the oil and gas industry, primarily the domestic shale gas markets.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Process sales inquiries from potential customers.
  • Read and review customer specifications and commercial documents.
  • Size major equipment including compressor, engine, and vessels, using various software and spreadsheets.
  • Solicit and review quotes from internal and external vendors per customer specifications and industry standard.
  • Create technical proposals and accurate pricing spreadsheets for customers.
  • Revise proposals per customer request or update as project changes affect the requirements.
  • Conduct and / or attend customer pre-sale and kickoff meetings.
  • Provide support to the engineering team and supply chain throughout the design and fabrication process. 
  • Provide support to aftermarket team as needed.
  • Provide assistance to account representatives including answering technical questions, project updates, quote updates, and sizing inquiries.
  • Attend industry meetings and tradeshows.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
A Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering or other STEM related fields or preferred 5-10 years equivalent job experience.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of welding, fabrication, and assembly in a job shop environment is beneficial.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or STEM field, or 5-10 years equivalent experience
  • Experience sizing compressors, engines, and pressure vessels and generating technical proposals
  • Ability to read and interpret customer specifications and commercial documents
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets and various sizing/engineering software
  • Experience soliciting and reviewing vendor quotes and producing accurate pricing spreadsheets
  • Ability to support engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and aftermarket teams throughout design and fabrication
  • Strong written communication, analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects
  • Knowledge of welding, fabrication, and assembly in a job shop environment
  • Willingness to attend industry meetings, tradeshows, and customer pre-sale/kickoff meetings
