SUMMARY:.
The Infrastructure Support Specialist is responsible for integrating computer and network systems while providing complex, high-level technical support.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Install and maintain digital and analog telephone instruments;
- Provide in person and remote support for users located at remote campus locations;
- Install, maintain and manage network printing/scanning devices;
- Install, maintain and manage cybersecurity software agents and related software;
- Install, support, and maintain classroom technology equipment;
- Install, support, and maintain cloud-based file storage applications;
- Configure and maintain IOS base data switches;
- Install, configure, and maintain wireless access equipment on main and remote campus locations;
- Support and maintain network bandwidth monitoring and management software;
- Deploy, support, and maintain network disk storage devices;
- Install and maintain digital, analog, and IP telephony devices;
- Install and maintain data communication equipment on main and remote campus;
- Provide 24 hour on-call support for computer/network systems;
- Coordination of LAN documentation, diagrams and network facilities with other internal and external networks;
- Install data communication equipment and components;
- Respond to on-site problem diagnosis, troubleshooting, with 95% resolution, coordination, problem escalations and consulting services;
- Develops standards for computer and network systems, to include standards for wiring, equipment, system security, and routing protocol;
- Provides project management of technical staff in the implementation, installation, configuration, and technical support of computer and network architecture;
- Coordinates projects with other University departments and external organizations and agencies;
- Serves at the primary point of contact and liaison with vendors; reviews vendor products, and coordinates and facilitates vendor interviews and presentations;
- Installs, configures, and maintains computer and network operating system and application software;
- Provides on-call support for computer/network systems;
- Negotiates exact technical requirements with vendors; establishes contracts, and writes technical contract specifications and proposals;
- Analyzes and determines budget requirements, current computer and network systems technology, and available vendor offerings to establish optimum computer and network architecture solutions; plans future enhancements and directions for the university-wide computer network;
- Installs, configures, and maintains Windows 2008, 2012, 2016, 2019, and 2022 server, Windows 7, Windows 10, Windows 11, Linux, and MAC OS;
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Work is performed in a typical interior/office work environment;
- Work with frequent interruptions;
- No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
- Moderate physical effort. May require occasional lifting, handling, pushing, or moving objects up to 50 lbs.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in any field, and at least one year of demonstrated experience providing technology support, or Associates degree in any field, and at least 3 years of experience providing technology support, or an equivalent combination of education and experience are acceptable.
EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years’ experience supporting voice/data networking, personal computers, printers and printer components in a field supported environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFACTIONS:
- BS in a computer related field such as MIS (Management Information Systems), CS (Computer Science);
- Six (6) years of full-time work experience supporting voice/data networking, personal computers, and printer components in a field supported environment;
- Experience in a College or University environment;
- Experience supporting Microsoft Windows or Microsoft Windows Server environment;
- Experience supporting Cisco networking equipment;
- Technical certifications such as CCNA, MCSE, MCSA, etc.
SPECAIL CONDITIONS FOR ELIGIBILITY:
- Required to maintain a valid NM driver’s license to operate University vehicles;
- Must be willing to work evenings, weekends and odd hours as required.
- Must be willing to be available on an on-call basis in case of system malfunctions or to work off-hours to perform system upgrades and maintenance.

- Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops;
- Knowledge of Windows 2008, 2012, and 2016 server, Windows 7, Windows 10, MAC OS X, and common MS Windows based word processor, spreadsheet, database and other applications.

Skills Required
