Current Lighting is a leading manufacturer of innovative, energy-efficient lighting solutions for commercial, industrial, institutional, outdoor, and specialty applications. At our Plympton, Massachusetts facility, we manufacture high-quality lighting fixtures and related products that require precision assembly, strong engineering collaboration, and disciplined production processes.

The Process Engineer supports the manufacture of engineered lighting products by developing and maintaining production methods, routings, bills of materials, work instructions, tooling, and manufacturing documentation. This role partners closely with Product Engineering, Manufacturing, Maintenance, Tool Room, production supervisors, and hourly operations personnel to improve product flow, quality, safety, cost, and manufacturability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create, review, and maintain manufacturing routers and bills of materials (BOMs) for engineer-to-order and configured product orders.
  • Develop and implement process engineering changes, including:
    • Updating routers and operation sequences.
    • Adding or revising material sequencing by operation.
    • Loading and maintaining control-cycle records.
    • Establishing and updating work centers, labor standards, and production system data.
    • Coordinating implementation with Product Engineering and Operations.
  • Partner daily with production personnel and supervisors to define, document, and improve assembly instructions, work methods, and standardized processes.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing, assembly, material, tooling, and workflow issues; provide timely support to supervisors, set-up personnel, and production teams.
  • Maintain BOMs, routers, and work orders when material substitutions, variances, engineering changes, or process updates occur.
  • Create and maintain manufacturing documentation, including assembly instructions, process layouts, work instructions, visual aids, maintenance work orders, and Tool Room orders.
  • Design and develop assembly jigs, fixtures, templates, and related production tooling, including layouts and technical drawings.
  • Use AutoCAD and Solid Edge to produce and revise digital engineering drawings, tooling designs, fixture layouts, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Collaborate with Product Engineering on prototype light fixtures, pilot builds, design-for-manufacturability considerations, and transition-to-production activities.
  • Support new-product introduction by validating routings, BOMs, work instructions, fixtures, tooling, material flow, and labor requirements prior to production launch.
  • Participate in Lean Manufacturing initiatives focused on safety, quality, delivery, productivity, waste reduction, and continuous improvement.
  • Analyze manufacturing processes and recommend improvements to labor content, cycle time, capacity, cost, ergonomics, quality, and material flow.
  • Assist with development of capital-equipment justifications, including process requirements, cost-benefit analyses, capacity needs, and anticipated operational impact.
  • Apply methods engineering and time-study principles to establish and improve labor standards, systems, procedures, and manufacturing processes.
  • Contribute to assigned cross-functional engineering, operational-improvement, and strategic-planning projects.
  • Train and coach hourly and salaried employees, as needed, on new processes, work instructions, tools, equipment, and standard operating procedures.
  • Follow all company safety, quality, environmental, and compliance requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related discipline; equivalent combinations of relevant education and experience may be considered.
  • Two to four years of relevant experience in a manufacturing, industrial engineering, process engineering, or production engineering environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining manufacturing routers, bills of materials, work orders, and related production documentation.
  • Experience with current manufacturing methodologies, including process improvement, standardized work, problem-solving, and Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Proficiency using AutoCAD and Solid Edge to create or revise engineering drawings, fixture designs, layouts, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Experience designing or supporting the creation of assembly jigs, fixtures, gauges, tooling, or production aids.
  • Working knowledge of CNC programming, CNC/DNC systems, and computer-integrated manufacturing systems.
  • Experience working with methods engineering, time standards, labor estimates, production systems, and manufacturing procedures.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, product specifications, bills of materials, and production requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Maintenance, Tool Room, Supply Chain, and Operations teams.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, organization, and project-management skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly communicate technical information to both hourly and salaried employees.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a high-mix, low-to-medium-volume, engineer-to-order, configure-to-order, or make-to-order manufacturing environment.
  • Experience supporting electro-mechanical, lighting, fabricated metal, electrical, or assembled industrial products.
  • Experience participating in Lean events, Kaizen activities, 5S, value-stream mapping, standardized work, or continuous-improvement teams.
  • Experience preparing capital-equipment justifications and supporting equipment-selection or implementation projects.
  • Experience training or developing manufacturing employees on processes, equipment, work methods, and quality requirements.
  • Familiarity with ERP, manufacturing execution systems, product lifecycle management, or shop-floor data systems.
  • Exposure to prototype development, pilot production, product launches, and design-for-manufacturability practices.
  • Strategic-planning capability and the ability to connect process-improvement projects to operational priorities.
