The (IND) Senior Software Engineer will lead the delivery of scalable, secure software solutions by collaborating with cross-functional teams to implement, test, and maintain services, APIs, and user interfaces. The engineer will contribute to solution design, technical leadership, and innovation while ensuring alignment with business objectives and quality standards. About the team:

Pulse is Walmart's user telemetry system designed to facilitate analytics processing of large-scale data. It simplifies the capture of online customer behavior, enables data sharing with partners, supports standardized data processing, and allows for global measurement of online properties across various Walmart tenants, including Walmart US, Sam's Club, and other markets. Pulse consists of tools, libraries, and services that help teams’ onboard data, validate payloads, and access analytics data through persistent storage (Hubble) or live streams (Kafka).

What you'll do:

1.       Own end-to-end feature delivery — Lead scoped feature development across APIs, services, UIs, and ML model components through the full SDLC, including CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and ongoing maintenance.

2.       Design & build scalable, distributed systems — Develop high-performance, multithreaded backend services using Java ; design and integrate messaging pipelines via Kafka; and ensure solutions meet Walmart's reliability, security, and scalability standards.

3.       Manage & optimize data at scale — Work with relational (SQL/RDBMS) and NoSQL databases for transactional workloads, and leverage Big Data technologies (Hive, Spark) to process and derive insights from large-scale datasets.

4.       Integrate AI/ML & GenAI capabilities — Embed AI agents and ML components via internal/external APIs, and leverage GenAI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) to accelerate development velocity and innovation.

5.       Drive DevOps, cloud operations & engineering excellence — Monitor application performance on GCP/Azure, maintain CI/CD pipeline health, manage defects proactively, mentor peers, and champion continuous improvement practices across the team.

What you'll bring:

1.       Strong Java & backend engineering expertise — Proven hands-on experience building production-grade services using Java , with deep understanding of multithreading, concurrency patterns, and high-throughput system design.

2.       Distributed messaging & streaming proficiency — Hands-on experience designing and operating Kafka-based event-driven architectures for real-time data pipelines and decoupled microservices communication.

3.       Data engineering & database skills — Working knowledge of SQL/RDBMS for structured data, NoSQL (e.g., Cassandra, MongoDB) for flexible schemas, and Big Data platforms (Hive, Spark) for large-scale batch and streaming data processing.

Cloud platform experience — Practical experience deploying, monitoring, and optimizing workloads on GCP and/or Azure, including familiarity with managed services, IAM, storage, and compute offerings.

Full SDLC, DevOps & AI/ML integration — Track record with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, observability tooling, and integrating AI/ML APIs or GenAI-powered tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) to improve productivity and solution intelligence.
