Help us create a better future, quicker

SP Energy Networks (SPEN) is undertaking an ambitious cyber security transformation programme focused on reducing risk, meeting NIS regulatory requirements and building a resilient, secure business. As part of this journey, we are looking for an experienced Incident Response Lead to join our growing cyber security function and play a key role in protecting the operational technology (OT) environments that support the delivery of safe and reliable electricity to customers.

What you’ll be doing

Reporting into the security operations manager, you will lead the development and continuous improvement of SPEN's incident response capability. This is both a strategic and operational role, responsible for ensuring the organisation is prepared to respond to, manage and recover from cyber security incidents in a coordinated and effective manner.

You will oversee the governance of incident response processes, playbooks and frameworks, ensuring they remain aligned with regulatory expectations, evolving threats and industry best practice. Alongside providing technical leadership and mentoring to analysts, you will take ownership of major cyber incidents, coordinating cross-functional teams, guiding decision-making and ensuring clear communication throughout the incident lifecycle.

The role also involves driving post-incident reviews, embedding lessons learned and implementing improvements that enhance organisational resilience. You will design and lead a programme of incident response exercises, helping to test readiness, validate processes and strengthen collaboration across technical teams and senior leadership.

Working closely with stakeholders across operations, engineering, risk, legal, communications and executive leadership, you will build strong relationships that support an effective and business-focused approach to cyber security. You will also contribute to the wider cyber security strategy, identifying capability gaps, recommending improvements and helping shape the future direction of security operations across the business.

What you’ll bring

We're looking for an experienced cyber security professional with a strong background in incident response leadership, major incident management and stakeholder engagement. You'll have a deep understanding of recognised frameworks and methodologies such as MITRE ATT&CK, the NIST Incident Response Lifecycle, Kill Chain and Diamond Model, together with experience developing incident response processes, playbooks and governance frameworks within complex IT, OT or regulated environments.

You will bring excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels and translate technical issues into practical business outcomes. Experience designing and delivering incident response exercises, mentoring teams and contributing to strategic cyber security initiatives will be highly valued.

This is an excellent opportunity to take a leading role in strengthening cyber resilience within one of the UK's critical infrastructure organisations, helping to protect essential services while shaping the future of incident response capability across SP Energy Networks.

What’s in it for you

As well as a competitive salary which is reviewed annually, you can also enjoy a number of other benefits. With our pension scheme, we’ll double match your contribution up to a company contribution of 10%.
