Title: Immigration Attorney
Department: Social Services
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports To: Director of Social Services
Summary: Provide immigration legal counsel and direct representation to SF pathways participants and in-house clients in applying for immigration benefits. Provide legal information sessions for citizenship class students as needed.
Essential Functions:
⦁ Provide clear and comprehensive legal advice to clients. Researches the law and consults experts when necessary.
⦁ Provides naturalization services such as direct representation, completing applications, assisting in securing waivers, and providing information and referrals.
⦁ Handles client information and files in accordance with the agency’s policies.
⦁ Attends trainings required to maintain up-to-date legal knowledge as needed.
⦁ Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
⦁ Bachelor’s Degree with two years of legal experience or associate degree with three years of legal experience.
⦁ Law degree with 5 years’ experience practicing immigration law.
⦁ Sensitive to the needs of the elderly and to diverse ethnic and minority cultures.
⦁ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and presentation skills.
⦁ Bilingual in English and Cantonese, Mandarin or other languages a plus.
⦁ Must be organized and able to work independently and in a team setting.
⦁ Proficient in MS Office and the internet.

Self-Help for the Elderly is a private community-based non-profit organization. Our mission is to promote the independence, dignity and self-worth of seniors. We will achieve this by empowering seniors to help themselves and by providing a comprehensive range of multicultural and multilingual services. Founded in 1966, Self-Help offers a vast array of health care and social services to over 40,000 seniors and disabled adults annually in San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Alameda counties.
