Job Summary: The Ignition Specialist will lead the design, development, and commissioning of enterprise SCADA systems for mission-critical industrial and data center projects. This position is ideal for an experienced automation professional whose primary expertise is Ignition and who can develop scalable, high-performance supervisory control systems while supporting PLC-based automation platforms. While PLC programming experience is important, this role is centered on designing enterprise SCADA systems, creating scalable architectures, and leading the development of next-generation visualization and data platforms for mission-critical facilities. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable developing sophisticated Ignition applications, collaborating directly with customers, and supporting commissioning teams in the field


Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain enterprise Ignition SCADA applications utilizing:
    • Perspective
    • Vision
    • Tag architecture
    • UDTs
    • Templates
    • Named Queries
    • Scripting (Python/Jython)
    • Alarm management
    • Reporting
    • Historian
  • Develop reusable Ignition standards, libraries, and object-oriented architectures.
  • Design intuitive operator interfaces, dashboards, graphics, and system navigation.
  • Configure MQTT, OPC UA, SQL databases, and enterprise data integration.
  • Architect scalable Ignition Gateway systems for high-availability environments.
  • Lead commissioning and startup activities for mission-critical facilities.
  • Troubleshoot SCADA, networking, and communications issues during startup and operation.
  • Collaborate with customers, commissioning teams, and field personnel to deliver complete control system solutions.
  • Design and program PLC control systems using:
    • Rockwell ControlLogix
    • CompactLogix
    • PlantPAx
  • Develop control strategies using:
    • Ladder Logic
    • Function Block
    • Structured Text
  • Integrate PLCs with SCADA systems using:
    • Modbus TCP/IP
    • EtherNet/IP
    • OPC UA
    • BACnet/IP
  • Configure industrial Ethernet networks, managed switches, and field gateways.
  • Support commissioning, troubleshooting, and optimization of complete automation systems.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership throughout project execution.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisor Duties:

In accordance with applicable Company policies/procedures and Federal/State laws, will perform the following supervisory responsibilities: planning, assigning, and directing work; coaching and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Required Qualifications:

  • Expert-level experience with Inductive Automation Ignition (strongly preferred).
  • 8–10+ years of industrial automation or SCADA engineering experience.
  • Extensive experience designing and deploying enterprise Ignition applications.
  • Strong understanding of SQL databases and database-driven SCADA architectures.
  • Experience with Python/Jython scripting within Ignition.
  • Experience integrating PLCs and industrial devices into SCADA platforms.
  • Strong troubleshooting and commissioning skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer interaction abilities.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Rockwell Automation programming experience.
  • Experience with PlantPAx architectures.
  • Industrial networking experience including managed Ethernet switches, VLANs, IGMP, and industrial protocols.
  • Experience with data centers, pharmaceutical, semiconductor, food & beverage, or other mission-critical facilities.
  • Familiarity with redundancy, high availability, and enterprise-scale SCADA systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical discipline preferred but not required.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, climb, walk, sit, push, pull, squat, crawl, and stoop. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel objects, and type on keyboard; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The use of power tools will be required to effectively perform this position. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and may be required to work at heights over 1.8m (6 feet)

In general, the following conditions of the work environment are representative of those that an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, work on job sites, may be required to travel to and from job site locations, may work in a typical office environment, and is occasionally exposed to construction equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Confined space entry may be required. High work may be required.
