Position Overview
This is a research intern position within the Advanced Robotics team in the Corporate Engineering and R&D department. The Advanced Robotics team is focused on developing novel technologies that give robots human-like capabilities. The candidate will support the development of humanoid robot behaviors for industrial automation tasks. The candidate will get a chance to connect perception, planning, and control so the robot can move, act, and respond safely in changing environments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Understand humanoid robot behavior and system constraints
- Build safe, reliable navigation in dynamic spaces
- Develop perception for objects, scene state, and localization
- Implement robust manipulation for grasping and placement
- Design high-level task planning and failure recovery
- Validate capabilities in simulation before deployment
- Integrate all modules into one end-to-end autonomy stack
- Apply Physical AI methods to improve real-world robot behavior

Qualifications:
- Prior experience with humanoid robots preferred
- Hands-on experience with UR arms, bimanual manipulation setups, or Physical AI systems
- Strong programming skills in Python, ROS 2, and C++
- Experience with robotics simulation tools, preferably Isaac Sim
- Good understanding of Robotics fundamentals, AI/ML and RL
- Curious, Team Player and ability to thrive in a collaborative, small team environment
Education / Experience
- Student in a MS program focused on Robotics
Physical Demands / Work Environment:
Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office (Troy, MI) environment, able to conduct a normal amount of work at a computer.
