Position Objective:

The Health & Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety policies, procedures, and programs across OneEnergy’s projects. This role ensures compliance with applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations while promoting a strong safety culture across construction, commissioning, and operations & maintenance (O&M) activities.

The Health & Safety Manager will report to the SVP of Operations and work closely with project managers, site supervisors, subcontractors, and clients to ensure safe execution of solar installations.  In addition, they will lead all efforts for improving OneEnergy’s internal safety culture, policies, and trainings to support our growing team in diverse workplace environments and roles.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide Health & Safety (H&S) policies and procedures aligned with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Implement and administer oversite of contractor safety programs at worksites, including site-specific safety activities and training programs.
  • Document and track safety violations, conduct safety audits, and analyze loss control data.
  • Lead OSHA reporting, monitor subcontractor activities, and review safety plan submittals.
  • Record, monitor, and analyze safety, injury, and hazard statistics.
  • Establish and enforce safe systems of work for high-risk activities such as electrical works (DC and AC systems), lifting operations and heavy equipment, Hot works, and other O&M related tasks.
  • Serve as a resource for safety issues, leading safety goals and training efforts company wide
  • Lead all incident analysis, response planning, and mitigation efforts internally and with contractors.
  • Work with client safety personnel, union representatives, and insurance risk engineers.
  • Ensure maintenance and inspection of safety equipment and build relationships with diverse backgrounds and organizational levels.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Professional H&S certification (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA, CSP, or equivalent).
  • Minimum 6 years of health and safety experience, preferably within renewable energy, construction, or electrical infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience managing H&S on construction sites, preferably utility scale solar sites.
  • Strong knowledge of solar PV systems and associated construction risks.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety standards for solar PV (DC arc fault risks, lockout/tagout).
  • ISO 45001 Lead Auditor certification.
  • Experience working with EPC contractors and subcontractors.
  • A proven ability to provide efficient, timely, and reliable service to project stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated with proven ability to take ownership, initiative, and accountability.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities often across functional and operational lines.
  • Ability to contribute to an amicable working environment with other associates and employees.
  • Position requires frequent travel, approximately 30 to 50% in the field, depending on time of year; must carry an active driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Excellent PC computer skills and familiarity with MS Office and Windows.
  • Must have a “roll up your sleeves and let’s get the job done right” type attitude.
  • Demonstrated qualities of integrity, credibility, and professional responsibility.
