At Lilly in Germany, we are currently planning and building a high-tech production facility in Alzey (Rhineland-Palatinate), which will expand our production of injectable drugs from 2027 and employ up to 1,000 specialists. At our new Alzey site, we are building a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility — and we are looking for HSE professionals to help shape it from day one.

Join Lilly as HSE Engineer to provide technical leadership and expertise in the development, implementation, and maintenance of HSE programs, environmental permits, and compliance processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary HSE contact for assigned areas and their management teams
  • Support operational areas in understanding regulatory requirements and implementing compliant, practical solutions
  • Lead and support cross-functional teams in the implementation and sustainment of HSE programs, including metric trending for continuous improvement
  • Lead or facilitate Process Hazard Reviews (PHR), support Process Safety Management (PSM)
  • Assist in facility and equipment design evaluation for environmental compliance and sustainability
  • Conduct periodic inspections, internal audits, and coordinate regulatory reporting obligations
  • Lead and support incident investigations; evaluate and approve Change Controls and HSE events
  • Conduct trend analyses, provide recommendations, and support development of continuous improvement plans
  • Coach and mentor HSE staff and key personnel across operational areas
  • Participate in corporate forums and benchmarking to identify best practices and simplification opportunities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Science, or equivalent
  • Experience in HSE/PSM field
  • Experience with Process Hazard Reviews and chemical or pharmaceutical manufacturing environments
  • Strong knowledge of environmental and occupational safety regulations
  • Technical writing experience (procedures, program documentation)
  • Authorization to work in Germany required — Lilly does not provide visa sponsorship for this role
  • Desirable qualifications in the field of waste management, fire protection, explosion protection, machine safety, hazardous materials management, management systems (14001/45001/50001),

  • Bilingual German/English is an advantage
  • Strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skills
  • Structured, analytical working style with a strong compliance mindset and sound judgment
  • Experience interfacing with regulatory authorities
  • Self-starter with strategic thinking and excellent troubleshooting skills

Additional Information

  • Tasks require access to manufacturing and laboratory areas using appropriate PPE
  • Must be available to support 24/7 operations and occasional travel
