Description
HR Manager – Operations & Total Rewards
Tareen Dermatology | Minnesota
Full-Time | Exempt | Hybrid flexibility based on business needs
Tareen Dermatology is a growing, multi-state dermatology practice committed to providing compassionate, state-of-the-art dermatologic care with an emphasis on early diagnosis, patient education, and comprehensive skincare.
Our vision is to exceed our patients' expectations by providing individualized, expert, and ethical care while continuing to be a leader in medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology.
As our organization continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced HR Manager – Operations & Total Rewards to join our Human Resources team and help build scalable, accurate, and employee-focused HR operations.
The Opportunity
The HR Manager – Operations & Total Rewards is a key member of the Human Resources team responsible for the operational infrastructure that supports our employees across Minnesota, Wisconsin, and North Dakota.
Reporting to the Human Resources Director, this position owns critical HR functions including multi-state payroll, employee benefits, HRIS administration, compensation and total rewards administration, HR analytics, vendor management, operational compliance, and process improvement.
This is both a hands-on and strategic role. The successful candidate will be comfortable personally managing payroll and benefits processes while also analyzing data, strengthening internal controls, improving systems, managing vendor relationships, and bringing forward recommendations that improve the employee experience and HR operations.
What You'll Own:
HR Operations & Multi-State Payroll
You will own our bi-weekly multi-state payroll process and ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll administration across Minnesota, Wisconsin, and North Dakota. This includes payroll audits and reconciliations, pay changes, deductions, garnishments, PTO, overtime, year-end processes, internal controls, and resolution of payroll discrepancies.
Beyond processing payroll, we are looking for someone who can identify root causes, strengthen controls, improve workflows, and reduce recurring errors.
Benefits, Leave & Total Rewards
You will manage the day-to-day administration of our employee benefit programs and serve as a primary resource for employees, vendors, brokers, and carriers.
Responsibilities include benefits enrollment and changes, annual open enrollment, benefit audits, employee communications, COBRA and ACA administration, leave coordination, carrier reconciliation, vendor relationships, renewals, and ongoing benefit-plan administration.
You will also partner with the HR Director on the continued development of Tareen Dermatology's broader total rewards strategy.
Compensation
You will support compensation administration and analysis, including market pricing, salary-range maintenance, internal equity reviews, compensation benchmarking, pay compression analysis, merit processes, promotion and pay-change recommendations, and implementation of approved compensation changes.
HRIS, Data & Analytics
You will help maximize the effectiveness of our HR technology and maintain the integrity of employee, payroll, benefit, compensation, and workforce data.
You will develop and maintain HR reporting and dashboards and help translate HR data into meaningful information and recommendations for leadership.
Compliance & Operational Risk
You will help ensure HR operational practices comply with applicable federal, state, and local requirements across the states in which we operate.
You will maintain strong documentation, audit practices, procedures, records, and internal controls and proactively identify areas of operational or compliance risk.
Process Improvement & Vendor Management
We are looking for someone who doesn't simply maintain existing processes.
You will be expected to identify opportunities to simplify, automate, standardize, document, and improve HR processes as the organization continues to grow.
You will also manage key HR vendor relationships, monitor service and performance, resolve issues, support renewals, and help ensure we are receiving appropriate value from our external partners.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for an HR professional who combines strong technical knowledge with excellent judgment, attention to detail, and a continuous-improvement mindset.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Approximately 5–7+ years of progressive HR experience, including significant payroll and benefits responsibility.
- Experience independently managing multi-state payroll and benefits, preferably within a mid-sized organization.
- Strong working knowledge of payroll, benefits, leave administration, wage and hour requirements, and HR compliance.
- Experience with HRIS and payroll systems, reporting, data audits, and process improvement.
- Experience with compensation analysis, market pricing, salary structures, or total rewards strongly preferred.
- Experience working in healthcare, medical practice, or another multi-location environment preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to independently prioritize competing deadlines and take ownership of complex HR processes.
You may be a strong fit if you are someone who:
- Notices a recurring problem and wants to understand why it keeps happening.
- Enjoys creating structure and improving processes.
- Can move comfortably between detailed payroll work and higher-level analysis.
- Doesn't wait to be told that something needs attention.
- Uses data to support recommendations.
- Can explain complicated benefits, payroll, or compensation topics in understandable terms.
- Builds strong relationships with employees, leaders, brokers, carriers, and vendors.
- Knows when to independently solve a problem and when an issue should be escalated.
