The HR Generalist plays a key role in supporting the full employee lifecycle for a growing engineering and consulting firm. This role partners closely with HR leadership, supervisors, and employees to deliver practical, compliant, and people-centered HR support across multiple disciplines.
The HR Generalist plays a key role in employee relations, performance management, compliance, onboarding, benefits administration, and organizational initiatives. This role requires sound judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to balance consistency with flexibility in a professional services environment. What You’ll Do
- Serve as a trusted HR partner to employees and supervisors on day-to-day HR matters, including employee relations and performance support.
- Administer employee benefits programs, including enrollments, life events, status changes, terminations, and annual open enrollment, ensuring accuracy and compliance with plan rules and timelines.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for employee questions related to medical, dental, vision, retirement, and supplemental benefit plans.
- Collaborate with Payroll to ensure benefit deductions and leave-related pay are accurately reflected.
- Administer leaves of absence, accommodations, and return-to-work processes in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.
- Track leave usage and ensure accurate reporting in HRIS and timekeeping systems, including coordination of PTO, sick leave, and unpaid leave.
- Provide guidance to supervisors and employees on leave-related topics, including intermittent leave, accommodations, scheduling considerations, and compliance requirements.
- Ensure compliance with employment laws and HR best practices across multiple jurisdictions.
- Maintain accurate, confidential employee records in HRIS and personnel files.
- Support audits, reporting, HR metrics, and ad hoc HR data requests as needed.
- Assist with workplace investigations, documentation, and resolution of employee relations issues.
- Support onboarding and offboarding processes, including integration of newly acquired employees.
- Assist with internship programs, early-career hiring, and internal mobility efforts.
- Support employee training, leadership development, and engagement initiatives.
- Support organizational growth initiatives, including mergers, acquisitions, and office integrations.
- Partner with HR, Finance, IT, Accounting, and leadership to support change management efforts.
- Participate in special projects and initiatives as needed to support business objectives.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, or related field.
- 3-6 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in engineering or professional services.
- Have a working knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail, discretion, and sound judgement.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Interest or experience supporting organizational change, growth or M&A activities
- ACEC industry experience
- Proficiency with HRIS systems (specifically ADP), preferred
- Experience supporting multi-state or multi-location workforces preferred.
