The HR Generalist supports the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources department for a multi-location automotive group of almost 200 team members. This role partners closely with the HR Manager and Controller to deliver HR and payroll services through recruiting, team member relations, compliance, payroll, benefits administration, and HRIS management (Paycom). The HR Generalist plays a key role in ensuring positive team member experience while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws. 

Key Responsibilities 

Employee Relations & Support 

  • Serve as a first point of contact for team member questions regarding policies, benefits, and HR processes 

  • Assist as needed with investigations, documentation, and resolution of workplace concerns. 

  • Promote a positive workplace culture across dealership locations. 

Recruitment & Onboarding 

  • Coordinate full-cycle recruiting for all dealership roles (sales, service, parts, administrative) 

  • Partner with hiring managers on job postings, candidate screening, and interview coordination. 

  • Support HR manager with onboarding, including new hire communications and system setups. 

HRIS & Data Management (Paycom) 

  • Continuously develop expertise with the HRIS to support managers and team members experience. 

  • Assist with payroll coordination and timekeeping issues.

Benefits Administration 

  • Support benefits enrollment, changes, and team member inquiries. 

  • Assist with open enrollment processes and communications. 

Payroll

  • Support recurring payroll processes and ensure activities are completed accurately and within established timeline.
  • Assist with the review and coordination of benefit transactions, maintain accurate records and support reconciliation efforts.
  • Serve as a resource for team members by answering questions, providing guidance, and supporting the use of internal systems and processes.

Compliance & Policy Administration 

  • Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations (EEO, FLSA, ADA, FMLA, etc.) 

  • Maintain and update team member handbook and HR policies 

  • Assist with audits, reporting, and other administrative HR tasks. 

General HR Operations 

  • Support HR projects and initiatives as assigned. 

  • Assist the HR Manager with strategic HR efforts and process improvements. 

Work Schedule and Location

  • Monday - Friday: 8:00am - 4:00pm
  • Office out of Mauer GMC in Inver Grove Heights, MN
Qualifications

Education & Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred 

  • 2+ years of progressive HR experience, preferably in a multi-location or automotive/retail environment 

Skills & Competencies 

  • Experience with Paycom or similar HRIS is nice to have but not required. 

  • Strong knowledge of basic HR best practices. 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills 

  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality 

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail 

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment 

Skills Required
