Reporting to the Manager, Software Engineering the HL7 Mirth Engineer’s primary responsibility is to develop and configure solutions within the Mirth environment. In addition, writing custom Java based APIs are a core component and requirement for a successful candidate. The Engineer will also be responsible for developing and updating supporting documentation including functional design specifications, process and procedure guidelines, and operational timelines. They will also provide technical expertise in the onboarding of healthcare clients blending skills associated with HL7 messages, Java coding and Mirth integration engine configurations. They Engineer will be responsible for testing the creation and transmission of messages and ensuring they are successfully created, received, and processed by the health client.

What you will be doing:
- Developing Mirth solutions to include HL7 interfaces, XML Parsers, configuration, and deployment.
- Working with C-CDA, CDA, CCD and other healthcare related standards including: RxNorm, SNOMED, ICD-9, ICD-10, LONIC, CPT, HCPCS databases and terminologies
- Developing modules and enhancements using XML, JavaScript, JSON, Bootstrap, APIs, Oracle, and SQL Server
- Automating manual processes
- Working cross-functionally to configure HL7 connections
- Troubleshooting connection issues and other complications
- Providing exceptional customer service to both internal Availity employees as well as Availity clients
- Analyzing and manipulating data by writing and running SQL queries
- Analyzing logs to identify and prevent potential issues from occurring
- Utilizing JavaScript/SQL knowledge to write custom processes and modifying data files
- Developing custom interfaces and extracts from SQL Data
- Creating custom Reporting methods using Mirth Connect
- Maintaining Mirth Connect system by addressing failures/errors, and upgrades, in addition to allocating system resources
- Completing all other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in relevant work experience
- 4+ years of progressive work experience designing business processes, process mapping, working on process improvement initiatives, and business applications system design
- Must have experience as an Integration Engineer with HL7 2.x and 3.x standard based integration in the Healthcare IT Industry.
- 4+ years of experience using Mirth
- 4+ years developing software for the US healthcare industry
- 4+ years developing code using JavaScript
- Knowledge of data exchange protocols relative to the healthcare industry and NIST specifications.
- Experience using Agile methodologies
- Experience in deploying and building solutions
- Hands-on experience with HL7 interface development (ADT, ORU, ORM, DFT, MDM etc.)
- Experience integrating with third party data sources and destinations.
- Experience creating interface mapping documentation, coordinate and facilitated interface specification and testing.
- Worked with all major HL7 messages to include ADT’s, ORM, ORU, VXU.
- Sound knowledge of coding standards like LOINC, SNOMED, ICD9/10.
- Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with CCD’s, Consolidated CDAs (C-CDA) & CCRs transferring the documents using FTP, TCP/IP methods
- Experience testing and debugging business application systems and processes.
- Experience integrating both in house developed software and externally purchased software for large applications.
- Knowledge, skills, and experience to write detailed technical documentation, specifically business requirements, and functional specifications for application development.
- Knowledge and ability to apply OOD (Java, HTML, XML, JavaScript, and Patterns) and impact to the application development process.
- Knowledge of development methodologies (preferably Agile/Scrum), application design, navigation, and information architecture
- Knowledge of database design and query language (Oracle and/or MySQL)
- Experience with Git, Bitbucket, Jira, etc.
- Understanding of web services (REST & SOAP)
- Experience writing and executing Unit Tests as part of the Development best practices
- Experience developing software products for clinical environments and medical labs is a plus
- Experience with Microservices is a plus
- Experience working in an entrepreneurial company is a plus
