Role Summary
The Historical Accounting  Senior Accountant is a hands-on problem solver, ensuring that accounting records are clean, accurate, and audit-ready — setting clients up for long-term success with Proper’s Pod support.

The Historical Accounting  Senior Accountant (HA SA) is responsible for performing accounting procedures that prepare client balances for accuracy, audit readiness, and transition to Proper’s Pod support teams. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, analytical judgment, and attention to detail to identify and resolve accounting discrepancies across Bank Reconciliations, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Security Deposits, and Financial Reporting.

The Senior Accountant ensures that client accounting records are accurate, compliant, and ready for ongoing operations — playing a critical role in stabilizing financials during the transition phase.

Key Responsibilities

  • Bank Reconciliations – Perform full reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, and post corrective entries.  Trouble-shoot and resolve for the triple tie out.  Troubleshoot, identify, and reconcile trust accounts.
  • Balance Sheet Accounts – Reconcile general ledger accounts to subledger reports.  Identify duplicate or misapplied entries, and resolve vendor/tenant imbalances.
  • Income Statement Accounts - Review for normal trends, Identify duplicate, misapplied or missing entries.  
  • Problem Resolution – Diagnose root causes of accounting issues, develop solutions, and escalate complex matters to the Accounting Lead. 
  • Ad Hoc & Specialized Work – Execute client-specific procedures including software migrations, calibrations, and ledger clean-ups. 
  • Audit Readiness – Prepare documentation, PBC lists, and recommendations to ensure transparency and client confidence.
  • Collaboration – Clearly explain issues and guide problem resolution; share process insights with the Client and HA Accounting Manager.
  • Organization - Highly organized with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple time-sensitive tasks efficiently, while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and real estate accounting practices
  • Advanced reconciliation, AP, AR, and balance sheet analysis skills
  • Proficiency with accounting software (AppFolio, Yardi, RealPage, QuickBooks, etc.)
  • Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills

Problem-Solving Skills

  • Investigative mindset with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies
  • Strong analytical judgment and root-cause diagnosis skills
  • Ability to recommend process improvements and preventative measures

Communication Skills

  • Clear documentation and reporting of findings
  • Ability to explain accounting issues to non-accounting stakeholders
  • Collaborative approach with clients and internal teams
  • Strong client-facing skills
