Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

Location: Based near Shrewsbury, Shropshire SY21

Salary - up to £26,154 per annum depending on experience 

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, flexible working arrangements available 

We are looking for an enthusiastic, qualified Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join the team.

The role involves individual support for young people but also the ability to cover lessons for absent teachers, provide SEMH interventions for our young people and to be a really active member of the school team. 

The Henslow and Evolution School is an OFSTED registered Independent Special School for young people with social, emotional and mental health challenges. Some of our young people are autistic, some have ADHD, almost all have experienced early childhood trauma.

Our school is set across two sites, the Secondary school is located west of Shrewsbury near the village of Middletown. We achieved GOOD with Outstanding features in our most recent inspection.

All of our staff are trained in Reflective Therapeutic Intervention, to ensure a consistent approach to our positive behaviour support and this compliments our bespoke approach to the holistic development of our students; academically, socially and emotionally. In our small, nurturing environment you will be able to genuinely make a difference; having the time to provide the attachment-based nurture and support that our students need to be successful.

Skills Required

  • HLTA qualification
  • Experience supporting young people with SEMH, autism, ADHD or childhood trauma
  • Ability to cover lessons and manage classroom activities
  • Deliver SEMH interventions and attachment-based nurture
  • Enhanced DBS check (subject to appointment)
  • Commitment to safeguarding and safer recruitment practices
  • Training in Reflective Therapeutic Intervention
  • Willingness to work 37.5 hours per week with flexible arrangements
