High Performance Compute (HPC) Engineer

Role Overview

As an HPC Engineer, you will design, build, and support high-performance computing environments that enable advanced analytics, simulation, AI/ML, and compute-intensive workloads. You’ll work across hybrid and cloud infrastructures to deliver scalable, secure, and optimized compute clusters—empowering innovation in research, engineering, and enterprise applications. This role blends deep technical expertise with a collaborative mindset to drive performance, reliability, and scientific impact.

Key Responsibilities

HPC Architecture & Deployment: Design and deploy HPC clusters using industry-standard schedulers (e.g., Slurm, PBS, Grid Engine) and workload managers.

Performance Optimization: Tune compute, memory, and storage configurations for maximum throughput and efficiency.

Automation & Scripting: Automate provisioning and configuration using Ansible, Terraform, and scripting (Python, Bash).

Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Implement observability using Prometheus, Grafana, Zabbix; resolve performance bottlenecks and system failures.

Hybrid & Cloud HPC: Support HPC workloads across on-prem and cloud platforms (Azure CycleCloud, AWS ParallelCluster, GCP HPC Toolkit).

AI/ML Enablement: Build secure and performant AI platform services that support LLM training clusters and real-time inference.

Collaboration: Work with researchers, data scientists, and infrastructure teams to align compute resources with workload needs.

Security & Compliance: Manage security protocols, ensure data integrity, and maintain compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.

Documentation & Reporting: Maintain system documentation, usage reports, and capacity planning forecasts.

DevOps & Agile Practices: Operate within a DevOps team using agile methodologies to deliver reliable and scalable services.

Required Skills

Experience in HPC systems engineering or Linux-based compute environments

Strong knowledge of parallel computing, MPI/OpenMP, CUDA, and job scheduling systems (e.g., SLURM, PBS)

Experience with cluster file systems (e.g., Lustre, GPFS, BeeGFS) and high-speed interconnects (e.g., InfiniBand)

Proficiency in scripting (Python, Bash) and automation tools (Ansible, Terraform)

Familiarity with containerized HPC (Singularity, Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud-native HPC solutions

Experience with AI/ML frameworks and LLM training clusters (e.g., Ray, NVIDIA InfiniBand, serverless compute)

Understanding of ITIL processes, performance tuning, and secure compute environments

Experience with DevOps tools, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code

Knowledge of domain-specific applications (e.g., bioinformatics, simulation, visualization)

Education & Certifications

Bachelor’s in computer science, Engineering, or related field (required)

Preferred Certifications:

Linux Professional Certification (LPIC, RHCE)

Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP HPC)

ITIL Foundation

Kubernetes, Docker, or AI/ML platform certifications

Soft Skills

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Excellent communication and collaboration across technical and non-technical teams

Ability to manage multiple priorities in high-performance, high-availability environments

Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement

Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences

Passion for learning and staying current with emerging HPC and AI technologies.
