Summary Generated by Built In

Figure is an AI Robotics company developing a general purpose humanoid. Our humanoid robot is designed for commercial tasks and the home. We are based in San Jose, CA and require 5 days/week in-office collaboration. It's time to build.

Figure's vision is to deploy autonomous humanoids at a global scale. Our Helix team is seeking an experienced Android Engineer to build native mobile tools that support key AI research functions, including robot data annotation, training dataset review, and on-the-floor experiment tracking. The ideal candidate has deep experience building rich, performant native Android applications and wants their tools used daily by researchers, robot operators, and annotators.

You'll design and build native Android applications that bring Figure's AI training and data-annotation tooling directly into the hands of robot operators and annotators on the floor — where a web interface tethered to a desk doesn't work. This is a high-ownership role at the intersection of mobile engineering and AI research tooling, working closely with AI researchers, robot operators, and annotators to shape new on-the-go experiences for real-time data capture, review, and annotation.

What You'll Do

  • Design and build native Android applications for robot data annotation, dataset review, and experiment tracking in the field.
  • Build fast, reliable mobile experiences for real-time and near-real-time data capture alongside live robot operation.
  • Utilize data-driven techniques to optimize interfaces for efficiency and fast iteration cycles.
  • Integrate AI models to automate manual annotation and review tasks.
  • Work closely with AI researchers, robot operators, and annotators to support new mobile-first user experiences.
  • Partner with our web tooling team to ensure consistent data models and workflows across mobile and web surfaces.

Requirements

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of professional, full-time experience building native Android applications.
  • Proficiency in Kotlin and/or Java, and the modern Android toolchain (Jetpack Compose, Android SDK/NDK).

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience integrating with data stores (Postgres, MySQL, ElasticSearch, Redis, etc.).
  • Experience managing cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Experience building data annotation, dataset management, or field-data-collection tools.
  • Experience with React/TypeScript or other web frontend frameworks, for close collaboration with web tooling counterparts.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is between $150,000 - $350,000 annually. The pay offered for this position may vary based on several individual factors, including job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package may also include additional components/benefits depending on the specific role. This information will be shared if an employment offer is extended.
