The Opportunity
We are now recruiting for a Head of Technical Bids to join our Stockton Office.
The Head of Technical Bids will report to the Group Sales & Bids Director and will be responsible for reviewing, assessing and defining the technical scope of supply for all bidding activity tom allow the bidding teams to successfully manage the bidding process. They will own the technical bidding process along with all scoping documentation, manhour requirements and technical write-ups along with producing data sheets, drawings, P&ID’s and any other technical documentation required to create award winning bids in line with customer requirements. Ensuring process is closely adhered to, managing review and the necessary approval steps is also a key duty and responsibility to assure and safeguard the business. 
You’ll be supported with personalised on the job training, coaching, mentoring and twice-yearly development and performance reviews to help maintain & develop your contributions and competence.

Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to;
 

• To be Responsible for all technical responses of all opportunities that come into the business, review, prioritise and action with the correct level of effort that meets both the customer requirements and in-line with the company strategy
• Technical proposal process owner, ensuring all steps are adhered to and managed accordingly to create winning bids.
• To manage the expectations of the Sales/BD team to ensure that each opportunity is reviewed, and our scope and position is understood so that sales can manage the customer accordingly
• Responsible for the management and leadership of the technical bidding team to ensure all bids are actioned with the correct level of attention and detail that puts px into the best position to win work. 
• Presentation preparation and delivery for customer leads and internal board reports
• Ownership of client, site & presales documentation requirements from a technical point, including the appropriate level of support on presentation / information material.
• Up-front management of enquiries received, ensuring that every opportunity is technically reviewed, risks are considered and shared, and that specific information and instructions are handed to the bidding team to allow for precise and accurate bidding content, making sure that the level of detail meets the customers expectation
• Responsible for supporting the sales team, fronting the technical selling function, on all opportunities, (feasibility studies, design works and full EPC/EPCm projects) along with technical report writing. 
• Up-front Ownership and responsibility of all enquiries received, ensuring that every opportunity is technically reviewed, and that specific information and instructions are handed to the bidding team to allow for precise and accurate bidding content, making sure that the level of detail meets the customers expectation.
• Align and coordinate between the sales and bidding teams, taking both customer and sales expectations and guiding the bidding team in producing outstanding proposals to achieve a successful win ratio
• Ensure that all bids are produced with the relevant level of technical content, in-line with customer requirements and that the quality of proposals is of a high standard
• Assist in bids pipeline management, to ensure accurate and on time delivery of bids as well as supporting on reporting metrics & KPI’s to the wider management team
• Undertake sales activities, attending customer meetings, generating leads to fill the pipeline, opportunity and risk management
• Accountable for the technical outputs of tender documentation to enable px to achieve the best possible chance of success
• Work closely and coordinate between the Bids, Project & Engineering teams, to ensure that each opportunity is reviewed, analysed, de-risked and scoped accurately with appropriate levels of technical input included in all opportunities.
• Support with documentation requirements, costing exercises, as and when required to ensure that documentation produced is of a high standard and our offering is the most cost-effective solution. 
• Ensure px regulations & rules are adhered to and comply to all regional requirements.
• Ensure industry or scheme specific standards are known and adhered to and proposal H&S requirements are met
• Manage continuous improvements within the team, including the introduction of processes, manhour calculations, technical write-ups and scoping documentation to Increase bid velocity and accuracy of bidding
• Understand the customers budget and price/ sales expectations and coordinate this with internal customers to ensure deliverables align with required outcomes
• Lead / support client facing communications for significant opportunities to assist with technical presentations prior to award
• Attending conferences, exhibitions, and talks, as and when required 
• Track latest technology and best practice to ensure that we offer the most advantageous solution at the most economical price. 
• Report writing (weekly and Monthly) along with year-end status reports, presentation and budgeting / forecasting activities will be undertaken.
• The role must ensure that the technical sell is directed towards a low risk, cost-effective solution, re-using our stock equipment were possible or offering our standard design where possible. 
• To make sure that proposals have been compiled with the correct level of technical detail and information that is in-line with the customer expectations

Minimum Requirements:

• Degree qualified in a technical, or engineering discipline. 
• Knowledge of process and multi-disciplined engineering Structural, electrical, mechanical, etc
• Knowledge of relevant industries and different levels of design (concept, pre-feed, feed, detailed engineering) 
• Understand site equipment (piping, structurers, silo’s cylinders boilers etc.
• Able to set own workload and targets
• Able to deliver bids and critical client requirements on time and on spec consistently
• Thorough understanding of engineering drawings & bills of materials to validate costing 
• Able to manage multiple disciplines
• Understand costing models
• Experience in creating excellent documentation, reports, presentation and have experience in technical tender creation and bid writing 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and attention to detail
• Highly organised and able to prioritise workloads, manage multiple opportunities and negotiate deadlines, collaborating with and managing people cross site and through bids and sales teams
• Ability to work directly and closely with bids, sales & projects personnel to ensure proposal content matches client expectation
• Able to present bespoke technical solutions to key internal and external stakeholders
• Able to motivate and encourage others
