The Role
Lead PR function for mobile.de, developing strategies, managing media relations, and crisis communications while mentoring the PR team.
Summary Generated by Built In

Founded in 1996, mobile.de disrupted the status quo of buying and selling cars as the first online vehicle marketplace.

Today, we are Germany's largest vehicle marketplace with around 1.4 million listed cars, commercial vehicles, motorcycles and e-bikes. Both private customers and more than 40,000 registered vehicle dealers use the platform and benefit from 108 million customer visits per month. As a “one-stop shop”, mobile.de's offering includes financing and leasing solutions in addition to buying and selling - and we will not stop innovating. If you are driven by an eagerness to learn and a passion for collaboration then we should get to know each other.

mobile.de is an equal opportunity employer and we value diversity. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status or disability status.

If you feel like you don’t meet all of the requirements for this role but are interested, please consider applying anyway. We strongly encourage people from historically excluded groups to apply.

What you’ll do & Who you are

mobile.de is Germany’s largest online vehicle marketplace, featuring around 1.68 million listed vehicles. Founded in 1996 and headquartered in Berlin-Charlottenburg, we serve over 20 million unique users each month.

We are seeking a seasoned Head of Public Relations to join our Marketing Leadership team and report directly to the Chief Marketing Officer. In this role, you will lead our PR function and develop strategic communications programs that elevate mobile.de’s brand and support our business growth. The ideal candidate is an experienced PR leader with deep automotive industry knowledge and fluent German language skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Communications & PR Planning: Lead the development and execution of comprehensive PR and communications strategies that align with mobile.de’s business objectives. Oversee campaign planning and PR initiatives (press releases, announcements, events) to effectively tell our story and drive brand awareness.

  • Media and Stakeholder Relations: Cultivate and manage strong relationships with journalists, media outlets, analysts, and key industry stakeholders. Act as a company spokesperson when needed, securing positive media coverage and ensuring consistent, on-message communication.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Marketing, Product, Legal and Sales to ensure messaging consistency and support for company initiatives. Serve as the PR advisor for company announcements, product launches, and corporate milestones, coordinating inputs across departments.

  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and inspire both the Senior PR Communications manager and the PR agencies. Set clear objectives, delegate tasks, and foster a high-performance culture focused on quality and collaboration. Manage workflow and resources to ensure efficient execution of all PR activities.

Requirements
  • Experience: 7–10 years of progressive public relations or communications experience, with a proven track record in senior or leadership roles. Prior experience managing a PR or communications team is essential.

  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate both internal Direct Reports and a team of PR agencies, to set strategic direction and to drive results. Strong project management and organizational skills are required.

  • Language Skills: Native-level fluency in German and excellent written and verbal English skills. Exceptional communication and presentation abilities in both languages.

  • Automotive Sector Experience: Significant experience in the automotive industry or related mobility sector is required. Familiarity with automotive market trends and media landscape will be crucial to success in this role.

  • Stakeholder Management: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage relationships across multiple internal and external stakeholders. Proven skill in collaborating with senior executives and cross-functional teams is a must.
