The Role
About Us:

Forage, a mission-driven payments company, assists merchants in accepting government benefits via a unified API. Over 42 million Americans utilize government assistance, such as SNAP, for groceries.

Forage is building the financial infrastructure, starting with EBT SNAP online, to enable merchants of all sizes to serve these customers online.

We are actively hiring across North America and function as a hybrid organization. While we embrace remote work, we prioritize candidates who can work from our San Francisco and New York offices.

Role Overview:

As the Director of Product at Forage, you will lead the product strategy, roadmap, and execution to drive innovation in the payments industry. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver seamless, secure, and scalable payment solutions. Your role is pivotal in shaping the product vision to meet customer needs, achieve business goals, and maintain a competitive edge in the payments ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Product Vision & Strategy:
    • Define and own the product vision aligned with the company’s mission and objectives.
    • Analyze market trends, customer feedback, and competitive landscape to identify growth opportunities.
  • Roadmap Development:
    • Develop and manage a comprehensive product roadmap, ensuring timely delivery of features and enhancements.
    • Prioritize features based on business impact, user needs, and technical feasibility.
  • Customer-Centric Approach:
    • Engage with customers, partners, and stakeholders to deeply understand their pain points and opportunities.
    • Advocate for the end-user by implementing feedback into product development.
  • Execution & Delivery:
    • Ensure clear communication of product requirements and timelines to engineering teams.
    • Ensure products are launched successfully and on-time.

  • Metrics & Analytics:
    • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure product success.
    • Use qualitative and quantitative data to make informed decisions and iterate on product offerings.
  • Compliance & Security:
    • Work with legal and compliance teams to ensure products meet regulatory requirements.
    • Collaborate with security teams to safeguard customer data and transaction integrity.
  • Stakeholder Communication:
    • Present product updates, strategy, and progress to the executive team and board members.
    • Communicate effectively with external partners, clients, and investors when necessary.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Lead and mentor a high-performing product management team.
    • Foster collaboration with design, engineering, marketing, sales, and customer success teams.
  • Recruitment & Team Building:
    • Lead the hiring strategy for the product team, identifying skill gaps and building a world-class team of product managers and other key roles.
    • Actively participate in recruiting efforts, including job description creation, candidate interviews, and selection processes.
    • Develop onboarding plans to set up new team members for success and foster a strong team culture.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Director of Product, VP Product, or similar leadership role in fintech, payments, or SaaS.
  • Strong understanding of the payments ecosystem, including APIs, gateways, processors, and compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to scale products in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Proficient in product management tools (e.g., JIRA, Linear) and analytics platforms.
  • Strong analytical mindset with a customer-first approach to problem-solving.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with payments solutions.
  • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks like PCI DSS, PSD2, or GDPR.
  • Technical background (e.g., software engineering or computer science) is a plus.

Our Offer:

Your base salary would fall within the bands below. Please keep in mind that the equity portion of your offer is not included in these numbers and represents a significant part of your total compensation.

  • Compensation $190k-$230k USD base + equity + benefits

Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries at our headquarters in San Francisco, California. Individual pay is determined by work location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
