Head of Product Engineering

As we've worked with customers to solve their most pressing document intelligence problems, we've started building a universe of products and tooling that can help customers through the entire lifecycle of their document workflows. We're hiring a Head of Product Engineering to lead the engineering team building these products. You'll set direction for what we build on top of our models, and be accountable for the product feeling fast, reliable, precise, and worth paying for. You'll define how we build products, from what technologies we use to how we apply them.

This is a hands-on role. We think the best product leaders at our stage lead from inside the codebase, so you'll spend your first few months shipping as an engineer on the team before you fully take on leading it. As AI makes it easier to write code, the expectation that you can fix the hard problems yourself will not go away.

You'll report to our Head of Engineering and work directly with our founders.

• Product Intuition: You have a sharp eye for what good product looks like and how it's built. You care about the details that matter and think with first principles.

• Quality: You deeply care about the quality of what you build and ship. You hold your team to a demanding quality bar. You're allergic to AI slop.

• Experience: You have 3+ years of experience leading team(s) that have built applications with significant impact. You've led business-critical projects from 0 to 1 but also from 1 to 100. You prefer to lead small, nimble teams.

• Approach: A quantitative approach to building products. Ability to debug, experiment, and iterate fast. You should be comfortable getting hands-on with the full development lifecycle, from ideation to shipping production-quality code.

• Ambiguity: You work well in environments that have ambiguity. We believe ex-founders are the best fit for this role as they have the skills to navigate ambiguity, but it's not a requirement.

• Customers: You've worked directly with customers before. You have experience doing customer discovery or customer research.

• Working directly with our founders, product team, and our customers to shape what products we build and how we build them

• Creating delightful, intuitive UIs that elegantly decomposes complex document workflows

• Ideating, prototyping and iteratively delivering new features like form filling, translations, document editing and document classification

• Sourcing and recruiting product engineers who will build a world-class agentic document platform

• Defining how we use AI in our building process

• Working closely with our Platform and ML engineering teams to roll out new models and deployment capabilities

• Have founded a company that has experienced meaningful traction

• Have experience deploying agentic workflows to customers

• Prior experience working with document workflows

• Have built with LLMs in production, including evaluation tooling

• Have held a tech-lead-manager or player-coach role at a company that experienced rapid growth

Nearly 80% of enterprise data is in unstructured formats like PDFs

PDFs are the status quo for enterprise knowledge in nearly every industry. Insurance claims, financial statements, invoices, and health records are all stored in a structure that’s simply impractical for use in digital workflows. This isn’t an inconvenience—it’s a critical bottleneck that leads to dozens of wasted hours every week.

Traditional approaches fail at reliably extracting information in complex PDFs

OCR and even more sophisticated ML approaches work for simple text documents but are unreliable for anything more complex. Text from different columns are jumbled together, figures are ignored, and tables are a nightmare to get right. Overcoming this usually requires a large engineering effort dedicated to building specialized pipelines for every document type you work with.

Reducto breaks document layouts into subsections and then contextually parses each depending on the type of content. This is made possible by a combination of vision models, LLMs, and a suite of heuristics we built over time. Put simply, we can help you:

• Accurately extract text and tables even with nonstandard layouts

• Automatically convert graphs to tabular data and summarize images in documents

• Extract important fields from complex forms with simple, natural language instructions

• Build powerful retrieval pipelines using Reducto’s document metadata

• Intelligently chunk information using the document’s layout data
