Purpose & Scope
The Head, Non-Promotional Platforms & Processes is responsible for defining the strategy to create and maintain an integrated global infrastructure of the systems, processes, operating models and governance necessary to support business activities across Medical Affairs; including but not limited to facilitation of field medical scientific exchange, delivery of medical information in response to unsolicited requests, creation and omnichannel dissemination of scientific content, development of scientific publications, and support for independent medical education. The primary focus will be on building and leading a team that will deliver functional excellence with a focus on innovation through assessment of all current and future business requirements using an enterprise view and identifying and implementing necessary digital and/or process solutions. Understanding industry best practices is critical, as well as emerging technology while applying local regulatory requirements to create a scalable and sustainable global framework that delivers quality and value to both internal and external stakeholders.
Role and Responsibilities
Leadership
- Set strategic direction for the Non-Promotional Platforms & Processes chapter incorporating deep expertise of external (e.g. HCP) and internal customer perspectives and needs within the context of legal and ethical guardrails for Medical Affairs.
- Lead team of 5-10 direct reports who are responsible for owning and defining business process(es) and supporting platforms for the respective functional areas which they are the subject matter experts in (e.g. field medical, medical information, scientific publications, etc.), and for serving as the single point of contact (SPoC) for cross-functional value teams through which they deliver continuous improvement through
- Build capabilities to the required standard of the Non-promotional Platforms & Processes chapter and ensure appropriate headcount allocation is in place to meet broader Medical Affairs organizational needs
- Conduct annual and mid-year performance reviews with direct reports and participate in talent assessment and development; provide written and verbal feedback to ensure a productive, professional and motivated work group and a highly valued work environment
- Partner with relevant Medical Affairs and other cross-functional leaders (e.g. DigitalX, Customer Engagement Excellence, Legal, Ethics & Compliance, Data Privacy, Regulatory Affairs, Pharmacovigilance, Quality Assurance, etc.) to align on strategic initiatives impacting their respective areas
- Exhibits strong leadership skills and brings a collaborative mindset as part of Medical Affairs Excellence Leadership Team and also delivers through pod and/or value teams as leader or member as needed
Preferred Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Health-Related Sciences or Business/Management
- Minimum of 7 years in healthcare industry with at least 5 years in Medical Affairs
- Breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities, including the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and deliver impactful value
- Exceptional understanding of Medical Affairs business processes and platforms (e.g. Salesforce, Veeva suite of products including CRM, Vault MedComms, CLM, Link, Workflow, etc.), dashboards, analytics, and underlying data structures
- Excellent understanding of legal/regulatory/compliance requirements and guidelines with respect to Medical Affairs in the pharmaceutical industry
- Strong and effective strategic thinker and problem solver with high degree of emotional intelligence, with the ability to both recognize and anticipate problems
- Ability to negotiate with multiple stakeholder simultaneously and work within ambiguity
- Excellent written and oral communications skills
- Flexibility to travel 20% of the time, including potentially international travel
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Health-Related Sciences, Computer Science, or Business Administration (e.g. MD, PharmD, PhD in Health-Related Sciences or MBA)
- Personnel management and/or group/team leader experience
- Experience in working in cross-functional agile teams
- Experience working in a global setting
- Business Process Owner/System Owner experience
- Experience effectively deploying scalable generative AI solutions within Medical Affairs
Location and Working Environment
This position is based in Northbrook, Illinois. Remote work from anywhere in the US is available.

Salary Range
$189,259-$270,370 (Final compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to skills, experience and organizational equity considerations)
