Head of Marine

General Overview:

We are hiring for our client, a leading insurance organization, for an exciting leadership opportunity to appoint a Head of Marine. This is a fantastic role offering full ownership of underwriting performance, portfolio strategy, and profitability across the Marine line of business within a dynamic and high-performing environment.

This opportunity is ideal for a commercially driven and technically strong leader who can balance disciplined underwriting with business growth, while building strong relationships across clients, brokers, and internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

• Own full P&L accountability (top line and bottom line) for the Marine line of business, ensuring profitability in line with organizational objectives
  
• Develop and execute annual business plans, budgets, and underwriting strategies for Marine
  
• Lead underwriting decisions on large and complex Marine risks, including pricing, structuring, and acceptance
  
• Establish and maintain underwriting guidelines, policy wordings, terms, and conditions for Marine products
  
• Ensure high-quality, timely underwriting service that enhances client relationships and market credibility
  
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, brokers, reinsurers, and business partners
  
• Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and regulatory developments within the Marine segment, recommending strategic adjustments where required
  
• Provide technical guidance and support to distribution channels, ensuring performance and capability alignment
  
• Lead client engagement initiatives including workshops, meetings, and seminars
  
• Evaluate reinsurance requirements and approve placements for high-risk exposures
  
• Drive portfolio monitoring, performance tracking, and corrective actions across the underwriting value chain
  
• Collaborate with senior leadership to support regional and international Marine business growth
  

Key Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in insurance, Business, Finance, or a related field (professional certifications are an advantage)
  
• Extensive experience in Marine underwriting within the insurance sector
  
• Proven track record of P&L ownership and managing Marine portfolios
  
• Strong technical expertise in Marine underwriting, risk assessment, and reinsurance structures
  
• In-depth understanding of Marine insurance market dynamics and regulatory frameworks
  
• Strong leadership skills with experience managing teams and driving performance
  
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management capabilities
  
• Highly analytical with strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
  
• Ability to operate strategically while maintaining hands-on execution in a fast-paced environment
  
• Arabic language skills are an advantage
