As the Head of Administrative Business Partnering (ABP) for Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED), you will lead a talented team of approximately 70 administrative and operational professionals supporting a world-class organization of 3,000 scientists and researchers. In this highly impactful leadership role, you will execute the strategic vision for a newly centralized administrative function, driving innovative ways of working, increasing collaboration, and elevating the career development experience for our administrative professionals.

Key responsibilities include:
Driving Strategic Vision: Develop and execute the organizational design and strategic vision for the centralized function, aligning the administrative support model directly with core scientific and business goals.
Fostering Executive Partnerships: Serve as a strategic thought partner to executive leadership on operational effectiveness, organizational design, resource allocation, and team engagement.
Leading with Enterprise Mindset: Act as an advocate and mentor for the administrative community, driving visibility, recognition, and team unity to maximize the community's positive impact on culture.
Cultivating Excellence & Innovation: Establish modern training frameworks, optimize operational processes, and actively govern the adoption of cutting-edge technologies—including AI—to maximize efficiency.
Managing Resources Dynamically: Oversee administrative staffing, lead inclusive recruitment efforts, and make data-driven decisions regarding budgeting and agile resource deployment.
Nurturing Culture & Inclusion: Role-model inclusive leadership across the community, ensuring professional development pathways are equitable and aligned with broader organizational milestones.

To be set up for success in this role, you bring:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience preferred
10+ years of proven experience managing administrative professionals and/or administrative supervisors in a large, dynamic corporate environment.
Proven Leadership Experience: Extensive experience successfully leading, managing, and developing large teams of administrative professionals or supervisors within a large, dynamic corporate matrix organization.
Passion for People Development: A strong track record of acting as an expert coach and mentor, with proven skills in capability building, proactive career pathing, and performance management.
Strategic Stakeholder Management: Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, with an innate ability to align operational strategies with executive goals and constructively navigate complex organizational dynamics.
Resource & Operational Mastery: Strong capability in resource management, including talent matching, agile budget oversight, and the prioritization of high-impact support services.
Tech & AI Forward Mindset: High proficiency in modern collaboration ecosystems (such as Google Workspace) and a demonstrated track record of championing and implementing digital tools, including AI, to optimize workflows.
Discretion & Judgment: Uncompromised judgment and professional discretion when handling highly sensitive, proprietary, and confidential information.
This role is based at our South San Francisco campus.
Relocation benefits are available for this position.
This role will require a minimum of 3 days onsite at the South San Francisco campus.
The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $166,500 - $309,100. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
