About This Role:

As the Head of Global Integrated Digital Execution & Automation Solutions, you will lead and coordinate the digital execution and automation engineering activities across capital projects, lifecycle management, and manufacturing operations. Your role will be pivotal in driving continuous improvement initiatives with a right-first-time mindset, ensuring all activities align with industry standards and Biogen’s best practices. Reporting directly to the Head of Global Engineering, you will work closely with global and site functions to support Manufacturing Operations, Quality, and other key stakeholders, building global capabilities in a standardized and reliable manner. Your leadership will guide the development and governance of technical standards, propelling Biogen forward in the digital arena. You will be instrumental in fostering strategic partnerships and ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety guidelines, thereby enhancing Biogen's operational excellence and ability to supply critical products to patients.

This is a hybrid role with preference to be based at our site in Research Triangle Park, NC. Will also consider candidates based near our headquarters in Cambridge, MA.  

What You’ll Do:

  • Oversee the development and implementation of Biogen’s Integrated Digital Execution and Automation solutions across the manufacturing network.

  • Lead the global organization in developing and maintaining technical standards and best practices for automation and execution solutions.

  • Align the global Manufacturing Operations Digital Strategy with Biogen’s overarching Digital Strategy.

  • Provide expert technical consultation to support the manufacturing site network and enable reliable product supply.

  • Develop and manage strategic partnerships with key suppliers for digital execution and automation solutions.

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, environmental, health, and safety guidelines in technical implementations.

  • Manage and maintain a high-performing team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to strategize and implement digital and automation initiatives effectively.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering discipline with 15+ years of work experience, with at least 10 years in GMP Execution and Automation solutions in the Biotech/Pharma industry.

  • 10+ years of leadership and people management experience.

  • Experience working within a global matrix organization.

  • Demonstrated expertise in process execution, automation design, and operational support.

  • Strong communication and conflict management skills.

  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional, international teams.

  • Direct experience with automation systems (DCS/PCS, PLC/SCADA, MES, etc.) in a regulated environment.

  • Experience in managing strategic supplier partnerships.

Preferred Skills:

  • Prior experience in Process Excellence methodology.

  • Experience with Digital Transformation programs in the Biotech/Pharma industry.

Additional Information

The base compensation range for this role is: $206,000.00-$283,000.00


Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.

Regular employees are eligible to receive both short term and long-term incentives, including cash bonus and equity incentive opportunities, designed to reward recent achievements and recognize your future potential based on individual, business unit and company performance.
