The Opportunity
This senior leadership role will oversee Vanguard’s ETF Capital Markets strategy and operations across Canada and Latin America. You will lead a high-performing team focused on optimizing ETF trading quality, market structure engagement, and client education, while driving innovation and operational excellence in a dynamic and expanding ETF ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Americas ETF Capital Markets team, with direct oversight of the Canadian and Latin American ETF Capital Markets function.
- Serve as a technical expert on ETF trading, liquidity, and market structure across Canada and Latin America.
- Monitor and enhance ETF trading performance, including spread analysis, execution quality, and premium/discount behavior.
- Oversee the Capital Markets component of all ETF product launches, ensuring seamless operational and trading readiness.
- Educate institutional clients and partners on ETF trading best practices, portfolio implementation, and liquidity strategies.
- Manage Designated Broker and Dealer agreements, including oversight of authorized market-making partners and coordination with custodial partners.
- Collaborate with internal teams—portfolio management, trading, legal, compliance, and product—to support complex transactions and optimize the ETF creation/redemption process.
- Represent Vanguard in regulatory consultations, industry forums, and market structure discussions across Canada and Latin America.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with exchanges, market makers, index providers, and institutional clients.
- Contribute to global initiatives and cross-border projects, ensuring alignment with Vanguard’s global ETF strategy.
- Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
What It Takes
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience, including 5+ years in ETF capital markets, equity trading, or investment management; supervisory experience preferred.
- Deep understanding of ETF mechanics, market structure, and liquidity provisioning across Canada and Latin America.
- Proven leadership in managing cross-functional teams and complex operational initiatives.
- Strong communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.
- Undergraduate degree in Finance, Economics, or related field required; advanced degree or CFA designation preferred.
- Fluency in Spanish or Portuguese is a strong asset.
- Willingness to travel regularly to Mexico City and other key markets in the region.
