Title is flexible: we're evaluating candidates from Engineering Lead or Senior Engineering Manager up to Head of Engineering. What matters is the profile, not the label — see below.

We're looking for a hands-on platform and infrastructure leader to own Platform & Data for our Therapy Business Unit, and build the technical foundation for our next stage of growth.

👋 Who are we?

Nordhealth (OB:NORDH) is the leading provider of cloud-based Practice Information Management Software (PIMS) to veterinary and therapy professionals.

Over the last three years, we've grown our ARR and team size by almost 10x. Today, more than 30,000 therapy and veterinary professionals use our software every day to help treat over 20 million patients annually across 35+ countries — and we're aiming to help serve over 200 million patients by 2030. In support of that mission, Nordhealth raised €120M in May 2021 through a public listing on the Euronext Growth Oslo exchange.

We're a remote-first company headquartered in Helsinki, Finland, with 430+ employees working remotely or from collaboration hubs across the Nordics, North America, and Europe.
Nordhealth Therapy is consolidating three market-leading regional PMS brands — Diarium in Finland, Physica and Psykbase in Norway, Terapeut Booking in Denmark — onto one unified practice-management platform for physiotherapists, psychologists, and rehab clinics.
On top of that core, we're building a patient-facing booking portal to help people find and book therapists, plus AI-assisted clinical documentation that handles real-time transcription and structured note generation so therapists spend less time on admin.

About the role

Reporting directly to the Therapy BU CEO, you'll own Platform & Data end to end — security, infrastructure, integrations, and the data layer underneath our product. Your job is to set up the technical foundations we need for the next stage of growth, execute against them quickly, and keep architecture decisions grounded in business outcomes rather than made in isolation from the product roadmap.

What "hands-on" means here

This isn't a pure people-management role, and it isn't a role where you're expected to write production code day to day either. Our engineers are strong, but none of them has yet owned an entire platform — security, integrations, API infrastructure — end to end. They need someone who has done it before and can show them, concretely, what the right way looks like: making the architectural calls, setting the technical bar, and staying close enough to the work to guide execution credibly from day one. If you're looking to learn platform ownership in this role rather than bring it with you, this isn't the right fit.

The profile we need

The single most important requirement is deep, hands-on experience in infrastructure and security specifically — not developer-experience tooling, and not a data-heavy, product, or backend-leaning background. Those profiles are not a fit here, however strong otherwise.

Beyond that, we're looking for:

  • Career path — You've grown from software engineer through tech lead and engineering management into platform leadership, rather than arriving at platform work sideways from an adjacent discipline.

  • Environment — You've operated in a highly scalable environment, a regulated industry, or ideally both. You've shipped platform work at pace and kept delivery discipline when priorities competed.

  • Ownership, not exposure — You have personal, multi-year ownership of platform-building decisions you'd still stand behind today — not just involvement in someone else's architecture.

  • Pedigree — Engineering manager or tech lead experience at a well-known tech company, big tech, or a strong scale-up. As reference points: an infrastructure/platforms EM at a scale-up who also built a developer platform at a larger tech company (e.g. Spotify, SoundCloud, Zenjob), or a hands-on EM/senior EM at a bigger company with startup or scale-up exposure (e.g. Shopify, Cleo, GitLab). Tech lead experience at a small company on its own hasn't been a strong enough signal for this role.

  • Business fluency — You can translate infrastructure decisions into commercial impact and talk about platform work in business terms. This isn't a pure SRE or infrastructure-specialist mandate.

  • Regulatory fluency — We're pursuing MDR compliance for our Therapy BU while expanding the product, so you understand what it takes to move fast and stay compliant at the same time.

  • Autonomy — You can operate with minimal supervision, deliver quickly, and genuinely enjoy hands-on platform work rather than gravitating toward pure strategy.

What you'll own

Near-term (0–6 months)

  • Security & compliance — Authentication, spam handling, and security fundamentals across all products, plus the risk assessments, audit controls, and documented processes we need for MDR compliance, and the QMS underpinning MDR Class 2 certification.

  • Billing & subscriptions — Standing up billing and subscription infrastructure so sales and marketing can run outreach, trials, and conversion flows properly for the first time.

  • API & service integrations — Owning API strategy and third-party integration infrastructure, including our EDI service, as the product suite expands.

  • Monitoring & observability — A cost-effective observability solution that balances business needs against technical stability, plus performance work on current system bottlenecks.

  • Production data & migrations — Deciding how we handle data size and scale during and after migrations — including whether parts of the system need to be rearchitected or can grow incrementally — and building the tooling to import data into the product as it evolves.

  • Cost engineering — Building a culture of cost awareness in engineering, real-time spend visibility, and 360° cost reporting to leadership by product and by customer, with cost built into architectural decisions from the outset.

  • Desktop infrastructure — Supporting existing desktop environments in the near term while planning their phased shutdown.

Long-term (6+ months)

  • Infrastructure consolidation — Unifying fragmented infrastructure across our Unified Platform, AI, and BP systems onto a single AWS foundation, and materially improving developer experience so teams can ship without waiting on infra.

  • Platform architecture — Moving beyond the limits of our current unified platform model toward a more modular, composable architecture that scales with the product roadmap instead of capping it.

  • Data platform maturity — Evolving from clean, reliable data for product, support, and marketing today into a data platform that supports more sophisticated decision-making across the business.

  • Mobile infrastructure — Building the foundations for a mobile app/interface that works for both therapists and patients.

  • Legacy modernization — Keeping the eventual overhaul of our legacy Diarium system on your radar and planning for it proactively rather than reactively.

Architectural rigor & delivery discipline

Beyond any single workstream, you're accountable for two things: building systems designed from day one to handle our growth — buying headroom rather than accumulating technical debt — and running platform delivery with the same rigor we expect from product: clear milestones, transparent prioritization, and accountability for outcomes. Platform work is sequenced with product development, not run in isolation from it.

People leadership

You raise the level of everyone around you. You set a high bar, give direct and timely feedback, and build a team where engineers grow quickly and want to stay — delegating meaningfully rather than holding onto the interesting problems yourself. You're a genuine peer to our other product and technology leaders, and the kind of leader engineers seek out: someone who builds a team through reputation and network, not just job postings.

What's in it for you?
  • The chance to work in a meaningful industry, in a fast-growing global company changing digital healthcare

  • Competitive compensation and benefits

  • Learning and professional growth opportunities

  • Remote-first autonomy and the tools you need to do the job well

  • Frequent company events and colleagues from around the world

Skills Required

  • Proven progression from software engineer to platform leader via tech lead and engineering management
  • Experience in highly scalable environments or regulated industries (MDR/healthcare), ideally both
  • Track record shipping platform work rapidly while managing competing priorities and maintaining delivery discipline
  • Hands-on technical leadership ability (not purely people manager)
  • Experience owning security, compliance, and quality management for production systems
  • Experience with APIs, integrations, monitoring, production data handling, and migration tooling
  • Experience with cost engineering and providing 360-degree cloud spend visibility
  • Experience preparing platforms for mobile readiness and modular platform architecture planning
  • Strong people leadership: hiring, coaching, giving direct feedback, and raising team performance
